There is no replacement for the shuttle. If we need to send men into space now, we do it on a russian soyuz rocket, which they are charing us around 65mil per man.
NASA just isnt really a focus anymore. Not enough money to do any of the BIG things. They do have missions coming up, like another mars rover, but not much as far as human space exploration. Many of us wont live to see a man land on mars. I think the rough estimate right now is somewhere between 50 years from now.
NASA is banking on private companies to help them going forward. I read an article the only way to get more funding for NASA would be if there were some political need for it, which right now there isn't. There were political reasons for going to the moon, its not like that with Mars.

The STS-135 patch represents the space shuttle Atlantis embarking on its mission to resupply the International Space Station. Atlantis is centered over elements of the NASA emblem depicting how the space shuttle has been at the heart of NASA for the last 30 years. It also pays tribute to the entire NASA and contractor team that made possible all the incredible accomplishments of the space shuttle. Omega, the last letter in the Greek alphabet, recognizes this mission as the last flight of the Space Shuttle Program.
