why is it the final? for that specific shuttle or final for all mankind?
- because it doesn't go anywhere we haven't gone.johnny_wobble
- the space station is complete.johnny_wobble
- privatize low orbit travel and focus the funds on vehicles to go to mars and beyond.johnny_wobble
- and of course, there is the history of explosions. that's the last thing obama needs.johnny_wobble
- but bush started the phase out / retirement, but intended for something new to be ready.johnny_wobble

its not our last, just the last this shuttle generation.
when the shuttle program came to existence, it solved huge problems in cost, safety and in technologies. this was around 30 years ago, now it is time to rework this launch process. we can do it cheaper, quicker and safer which requires a new generation of spacecrafts.
with all the dependence in low /high orbit satellites, all the technology advancements, R&D; i dont see how could we not have a space program and mind you this is not the end for NASA; just a new chapter. progress happens..

working on something to go where others can't.johnny_wobble - i think i heard there was another design in the works during the bush years, but obama scratched that design.johnny_wobble
