I have a shitload of interviews lined up today, what should I ask them. This is my first time interviewing for a position and I already hate it.

Make them pose for a photo.
- Sinov0
I have thought about that... and a bounce test as well.

any of them female?
start with seeing if they will get naked..if guys, ask them if they have girlfriends who are willing to go that extra mile..
if that doesnt work, often i find asking them deeply personal questions about things they clearly would have no involvement in helps break the ice..
"so.. invasive rectal medical surgery porn? are you a fan?"

Sinov - you like invasive medical porn? your hiredautoflavour

hmmm, to be serious, just talk to them like people who are interested in graphic design. see what they are about. how they have fun. See if you like them and if they have good work, hire away.
No need to have a list. It's a conversation. Right?
- Sinov0
I kind of agree with you, questions like - so could you explain how you've handled a difficult situation at your last job... really make me sick. I always hated those. Particularly in a junior role where their last job was at McDonald's making burgers while studying.... unless they were a stripper paying for their tuition...hmmmm

when in doubt, pull your wang out.

I like to ask them about who inspires them, what inspires them, and why. How this inspiration finds its way into their work is important and will give you an idea of what kind of designer they are. If they're more experienced, I have them walk me through a process they thought worked well, and contrarily one that was rough, and to explain why. Of course, ask them about the music they listen to and what their hobbies are. Most of the time I look at their work and just have a good conversation based on what I see.

Ask them finish weird sentences...
"Jam out, with your..."
"On QBN my username is..."
"First thing I do when I wake up is..."
etc.

I was always amazed asking jr level designers who their design influences/icons/mentors are and how many stumble over that question....and have no answer. WTF did you do in school?!
Best starter is to have them walk through their portfolio and get them to walk through their thinking/process.
- zzzz @ process and explaining work. You've seen their folio, that's why they got an interview.meffid

or how do you feel about endless filing projects? :) - smile is important here...
- autoflavour0
ask them how they feel about flash not being included in iOS..
then report back
- I would hate to be asked this. Showing a dislike for apple in an interview would likely get me nowhere.Hombre_Lobo
- what if you were being interviewed for a flash developer position, at apple?autoflavour
- autoflavour0
tell them if they get the job, they will need to make the logo bigger.. and if they are ok with that

Ask really irrelevant and moronic questions, such as "do you have a pet", or "do isosceles triangles excite you"
What ever they say in reply act disappointed and mildly upset.
- Sinov0
yes mildly upset is the winner and a slight disappointment always works - it takes them back to not living up to their parents expectations.

Is not that hard to be honest, let me explain with some examples:
Situation A:
Lady walks in, and has a very impressive portfolioThanks for coming down, at this point we feel like you might be hmm.. how should I say this.. overqualified for this position.
Situation B:
Lady walks in, and has a very impressive portfolio:you are hired!

Stay positive, shortlist those with a reasonable folio, get them to talk through it, try to figure out if they are quick learners.
- monNom0
tell them you were really looking for more of a 'graphic designer'.... then trail off without defining how they are not.
- Sinov0
First guy done, he forgot his portfolio??? He was OK otherwise.
- Sinov0
Hybrid I guess but in saying that I like to leave coding to coders and I would expect most of recent design graduate to be familiar with web interface and print advertising.
