Based on our capabilities as a community (and obviously page rankings) are we not able to mediate the art & design world from QBN?

I'll give a real response to follow up on my post... which will probably be laughed at, but I don't care.
When we can all get behind things like the Transfatty stuff.... where we can make a difference, and actually do something for maybe not just one person, but many people... that's pretty f'n cool.
But then I'll go to pic-o-the-day and see this:
...and I think, "I could just as easily put a pic of transfatty there" (despite the fact that he's not alone). We're cruel to one person we don't know, while helping another one we do. I'd rather see us try to do something good than spend 95% of our time being assholes or useless, and 5% of our time actually being really useful.
From time to time we actually do give good crits of peoples work, but most of the time, we laugh at them, or give stupid comments. We could be a great design community, but instead we often squander it laughing at people who don't spend hours online making sure they know the latest internet memes.

QBN does not forgive. QBN does not forget.
- QBN does not give. QBN does not get it.logi

^ we're mostly reposting, without much originality, from 4chan and other less than adult sites. If you don't count their adult section. But even that isn't adult...
And we're not stiff enough to discuss topics in a mature and argumentally sound fashion.
That said this site has its lolcubes, fun designers and loveable trolls.
Ask not what qbn does for ye...

99% of what is posted here is fresh from reddit front page

- re-syndicated syndication. it's old by the time it hits here, 99.9% of the time without credit to original sourcelogi

Thanks to all for their input; relevant and irrelevant...
What I take from this: jfletcher -> "What we could be: not sure, but something a lot better than our immature selves."...

in my experience, the first post or two in any given thread sets the tone for the rest of the posts thereafter.
if someone asks for a critique (on a rather bad design) and the first post or two are harsh and full of snide remarks, the same tone follows. if the first few remarks are positive and offer good suggestions to the same type of poor design, the tone greatly differs and it turns into a great critique.
in the past i'll be the first to say i was one of the worst offenders to derail a thread or chime in with a funny remark (OK, they were mostly super funny remarks because i'm SO funny). but as of late i try not to be that guy.

and just to help prove my point. more than once i've created a fake screen name for advice or a critique and have been lambasted with comments, none of which were remotely helpful. using my own name i get a completely different set of responses. mostly 'die asshole' and 'i hope you get hit by a bus', but those are mixed in with 'i want to have your baby' and 'you da best in the biz kona' type stuff.

Does the world need mediation? Do we (QBN) need to be the internet police? I say live and let live.
- It was just a thought I felt like discussing with a bunch of QBN hacks like us... ; )... Back to FMT...ideaist
- No, its a worthy topic, carry on...abettertomorrow
