Cinema 4D boolean doesn't work

I have a line of text revolving around a circle. I'd like the text to only be visible in the front facing arc that faces the camera.
So, I made a large cube and put that and my text object inside a boolean object. When I rotate the text object it should be invisible where it intersects with the cube.
The problem is that the parts that should remain invisible flicker and spasm like a twitching bastard I can't kill.
Is there an issue with wrapped text and booleans? Is there a workaround?

like when you are working on it or after you render ?

This might be hard to understand without seeing it. I'll post a render.
It looks ok while working, unless it's a perspective or camera view. It renders spastically.

i see what you mean, I thought it might just be the software acting up but its in the render. Does this happen with just the boolean and text minus the centre piece? I have no idea what is causing that its just looks like your render is spazing out.

i always select all the boolean options and then make it editable. If you are boole'ing a lot of things, you may have to boole one part, then make it editable, then boole the rest. you should avoid animating an boole if possible, because that's going to happen. What I would do is use a plane to create the disappearance, then give it a compositing tag with an object buffer so you can remove the plane in AE afterwards. Theres probably other workarounds also, but thats the first that comes to mind without getting into cinema and messing around.
- that's a great workaround. I'm actually trying something similar that won't have transparency but might work anyway.CyBrainX

Well, the compositing tag idea sounded great in theory, but I have NO clue what parameter to set to get the box to block off the text but still be transparent in the render. Matte didn't work. Also, when I tried a multipass the generated .aec file wouldn't open in After Effects. I probably need a newer version of the plugin for C4D v12 but it's nowhere on Maxon's site. I'm going to see if I can get away without having the alpha and render over night. Thanks to everyone who tried to help me out.

Boole's are processor intensive. Definitely Make Your Object Editable before rendering.
Also, rendering in a TIFF sequence vs. a .MOV. Frames will be more precise.

Can you post your .C4D file as a .zip? I'm interested in seeing what's going on with it.

Here's my file.
talesfromthehead.com/random/pure...For now, I took the opaque video and used Primatte on it in AE to get the transparency. That was good enough but I'd love to know how to get the composite tag to work. That shit is just way over my head. I never get it right and it should be so simple.

never mind that - there's a better way to do it with mograph... check your email

I would check the flux capacitor, and then the Gonkulator.

re:Object buffer
Just add the compositing tag, tick buffer 1 and then in multipass render add an Object Buffer pass for 1 and it'll export an alpha channel for all objects on that buffer.
It's much easier than it sounds

Strange, the low quality/low alias render plays smooth for me.

what animatedgif said as far as using a buffer object to generate an alpha for that specific object. I actually did this exact same animation a few months ago.
Also, to use the c4d generated .aec files for AE, you need to install the plugin in the "exchange plugins" folder of c4d, or it should be available online somewhere. Definitely start using this, it's a lifesaver.
