Well, the compositing tag idea sounded great in theory, but I have NO clue what parameter to set to get the box to block off the text but still be transparent in the render. Matte didn't work. Also, when I tried a multipass the generated .aec file wouldn't open in After Effects. I probably need a newer version of the plugin for C4D v12 but it's nowhere on Maxon's site. I'm going to see if I can get away without having the alpha and render over night. Thanks to everyone who tried to help me out.
