Aftereffects - .ai files?

Greetings Earthlings,
Why is it that when I import an .ai or .eps vector file into AfterEffects, it looks lo-res?
I tried making file size larger (which is stupid I know taking into account it is vector), and I tried all sorts of different saving formats.
The photoshop files on the other hand, look fine, after exporting the .mov in the same project.
Any ideas?

I'm not sure, but does the vector still look like shit when you view the exported rendered file?
I don't really know AE so I'm just guessing on my past experience with adobe and the settings panel of how graphics are previewed.

not that you need the extra step... but if you find no direct import solution... (this is only an idea - I haven't tested it) ...maybe import the vectors into photoshop as smartobjects then bring in the PSD?
Perhaps as those layers are smartobjects you'll still be able to scale them while in AE...

press the ninja star looking switch under switches

- where's the switches?SoulFly
- The Continuously Rasterize switchfyoucher1
- the switches are on the layer itself, next to where modes and the layer name is etc. you might have to open them if they aren't displayedDodecahedron
- they an'rt displayed...

- you want Continuously RasterizeDodecahedron

You need to click the continuosly rasterize switch (what Dode said). AE will automatically rasterize your vector graphics. If you scale them past 100% or apply effects you need to click that switch so it can re-rasterize the vector.
- sweet!... I too have a project to crank out in AE this week I planned on using vectors... glad to know this!PonyBoy

just a Q... does that kill performance?
- i imagine it would use more resources, but i dont notice any slow down.Hombre_Lobo
- Takes more performance obviously but not that taxing.animatedgif

toggle switches / modes.
the click the check box under the thing that looks like an astrix (or more like the sun), this enables 'continually rasterize' on a layer.
You often also need to do this when importing a pre composition that uses 3D layers, if you dont tick it they will appear flat.

if your original .ai file dimensions are huge it can really slow things down, even if it's just a plain circle. always best to optimise!- FAIL!!
NO WAY YOU WERE POINTING CIRCUMFLEX ACCENT AT ME!!Hombre_Lobo - ahem.
im sorry.
bed time.Hombre_Lobo - lolz. actually was at pony -- you cut in before me. now go to bed.inteliboy
