in terms of freelance work for production companies and agencies then it's perfect. done. word of mouth and personal recommendations will take it from there. It appears your focus is on animation/compositing. So you design as well? Ever thought about showing boards on your site if you do? A lot of the "direction" phase is determined in that process.
i think taking your work in a more independent direction is a big challenge and would also require a website overhaul and possible branding exploration as well. it will be challenging to create work that you can ultimately own until you are the one running the project.
- good advice. I'm defiantly giving it my all. Thanks for the input.Julesvm

Consider that an animator's demo reel needs to be approximately a minute long. Every skill set needs to show something different. You are directing and you need to show transitions/cuts...ability to make decisions. I believe direction is more storytelling which takes longer to witness. The length of your reel seemed appropriate.

yeah - douglas, I think you've hit the nail on the head - that 'unique directorial style' thing is the real rub in all this, I've been trying to accomplish it for some time, but I've thrived mostly off being kind of a chameleon with my style (regrettably)... I'm trying to push for work where I have more of a personal imprint. This is the first promo material I've done for myself at all in about 4 years... so I'm hoping it leads to more creative opportunities where said goals can be accomplished.
To answer your previous question, I'm looking for mostly freelance work, with production companies and agencies, I have no interest in starting a company (is that what you meant by 'your own thing'?)

i think the length is fine. maybe a bit long by normal standards, but works ok here. all i really needed was the first 30seconds to see that you know your game. the rest is gravy, take it or leave it.
obviously your production value and animation skills are high, but it wouldn't be bad to see a unique directorial style pushed further.

What's the song? I think I've heard it before...

are you looking to get hired by shops, or work freelance, or start your own thing and pick up jobs directly?
- Julesvm0
thanks for all the feedback guys, great critique (it really helps to get these notes before I'm taking it around to clients) - based on this response and some others, I'm now toying with a slightly shorter cut. I'll let you know if I decide to replace the one there now.

I too thought it was a bit long. You lost me at about a minute. I get who you're targeting in your approach but I don't think that's an excuse to drag it out. I think some of the live action stuff probably isn't your strongest- the dude dancing around with the cape or whatever on and the train driving on the face was just really odd for me. That's super nit-picky stuff. Really nice work though, fun intro, and loved the song selection.

Such a good reel - super inspiring. You should aim for the fucking stars if looking for new work / job.

Beautiful, nice work man. Love the VO, audio, and story telling. Good job.

Amazing reel. The length was fine for me (said the actress to the bishop!) as it kept me entertained but this isn't my area of work at all so not sure what your clients would expect. Really enjoyed it and the music is spot on.

I liked it. Looked like great work.

@Andrew nope... Them repping me is relatively new (~6 months) and I've only dealt with Karen Michael and Laurence. Seams good so far. I've only done the tourettes foundation job through them.
Also, glad you like the reel. I see your from TO... where you working?

Hey Jules, awesome reel! I recognize a lot of it from the boob tube. Some top notch stuff in there.
You work with Circle(represented by) on Adelaide, eh? You know Mary Naylor?
- Julesvm0
@jamesomega give C4D a shot... it's easier than you think and it's integration with AE is tops.

Great reel! Makes me want to pick up 3D but I'm low on educational resources and really starting to plateau with animation in AE.
