I applied for this job, the guy emailed me back and said he was interested.
What I don't get is...He wants a CD? with 4+ years? Does that exist?
I would think 10+ years and you could call yourself a creative director.
It seems like he wants a graphic designer to play the role of a CD for cheap?
Do you think I'm right?
Whats this guys deal? How do you think I should approach it?Thanks!

- i guess not. i mean if he calls you a CD... you are a CD. I dont t hink there's a guideline. I had a friend who became an AD her first year.hellojeehae

I haven't gone on the interview yet.
But I have only worked graphic design jobs.. I have not officially worked somewhere and called myself a CD.
I could call myself an AD for sure... but I dunno, I just dont want to get over my head. and its seems a little sketching saying 4+ years for a CD...

Depends on who you ask.
Creative direction is not always about experience but about skillset - Can you manage workflow and time accordingly? Do you know how to best utilize your resources to achieve the best results?
I don't believe it takes 10+ years to become a creative director - I actually think I could do a helluva better job than my current CD at doing what he does. Right now he's a glorified sales rep for our company. He hasn't done anything creative outside of make a few nifty keynote slide transitions since i've been working here.
I personally believe that graphic designers, however dependant upon the individual, can make for great creative/art directors. Unless you're one of those co-dependant need-my-hand-held piece of crap designers then do you truly need a creative director to oversee your output? If you rely on someone above you to always make a decision or to guide you creatively you might just be in the wrong profession...
I think if you're serious about the job inquiry and think you have what it takes to be a 'creative director' then you should approach him with confidence. If you're uncomfortable taking on the responsibilities typically associated with being a creative director then forget it and look elsewhere.
That being said reading the job posting does throw up some red flags. In many ways it makes out the position to be a glorified designer with added responsibility. Another major red flag for me is the "get-sh!t done mentality". Too often our industry is completely deadline driven - meaning that more often than not you are compromising the integrity of the work just to get it out the door - rather than taking an approach of strategic implementation.
If you're serious about this position and would like to interview I suggest you ask a lot of questions and get a very strong understanding of the company and the culture there before making any commitments.

Thanks d_rek those are some great words!
I'm very self directed, I like to make my own choices and I eventually want to be a CD. But this positions sounds like a glorified graphic designer. My only weakness is that I blow at copy writing. If he needs really tight creative briefs, then I would not be the greatest for the role. Other then that I feel confident that I could do this. Here is his site.. adpioneers.com- it looks legit.hellojeehae
- ha that site got blocked at my work for being porn.canuck
- d_rek0
The work looks solid but that site pisses me off. Needs a pause between projects and the fucking red arrows that do nothing are incredibly deceiving. Critique their website when you go in for that interview.

He's either a cheapskate, want's to fuck you, or murder you.- Probably all 3.canuck
