Btw, I'd suggest a disk image when it's all setup and working so you don't have to feel the pain again.
- Ha. My obsessive imaging habits made me think the same.
Good point dude! :)Hombre_Lobo - probably a good idea.johnny_wobble
- Handy if you ever mess up a system update too.kalkal

If I ever do it, I'd like to mod an old G5 case from ebay to fit an ATX motherboard. I have no idea how to do that though, so I'm not going to.

How many hours did you put into it, including research?
- quite a bit including research. but I was mostly on the clock. :)johnny_wobble

The hardware and building process does not scare me a bit, I'm used to fiddle with stuff. Things not working, that I don't like. I have no problems fixing it, just don't like to waste time. If the problems are just sleep mode, then I'm fine with that, if suddenly airplay doesn't work and I need 3 days to fix it, that's something I have a problem with...
- mine still works fine. i started this thread on it... and wrote this comment. still snow leopard though.johnny_wobble
- well, started the thread right before the build i guess, but you get the idea.johnny_wobble

so here's my setup.
i had some hardware troubles (i received a defective motherboard which blew out my CPU, had to replace those) which put the project on hold for a while, but once i got the beast up and running installing OS X was a simple thing. my entire build was compatible with kakewalk http://kakewalk.se so i went that direction instead of iboot like i had planned. i bought a hard copy of snow leopard but ended up using a pirated version of lion and installed everything off a thumbdrive.
right now everything is running smoothly except when i first boot up i have wacom driver problems and sometimes have to reinstall them. graphics look good, haven't tested sound yet.
- oh yeah, and opted to not overclock as i don't really need itscarabin
- also there are some builds on that kakewalk site that are pre-vetted and are super cheap to put together. definitely worth checking out if you're at all interested in a new macscarabin
- checking out if you're interested in a new macscarabin
- Sweet. Mine's still running fine. Gonna try updating it soon.johnny_wobble
- holy shit. 32GB ram. lol.akrok

Thanks for that link kalkal.
There seem to be many ways to hackintosh. I wonder which is the best / most stable.
- from my looking around, this seemed like the cleanest method.johnny_wobble
- kalkal0
I think iBoot+multibeast is one of the cleanest ways other than just using iBoot and getting all of the kexts and stuff by youself
- the iboot cd you use is a handy thing to get you into the system if things fuck up too.johnny_wobble

This whole thing could potentially become easier when standard PC motherboards start shipping with EFI instead of BIOS.
It's the biggest real difference between Macs and PCs still, other than the pretty factor.
- Oh and price :Pkalkal
- OH SNAP!!
You've open the gates now!!Hombre_Lobo - need some silver spraypaint too....vaxorcist
- haha. :-)akrok

^Ahh right. Good to know.
The efi thing rang some bells and I remembered I spotted this when choosing my components for a new machine -
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/sh…
that has UEFI bios.
What the hell is efi and uefi? Wikipedia here I come!!

I'd like to build a hackintosh notebook, but don't know where to start. i usually need liek step by step instructions w pictures.

I think this site is pretty good, these are the buying guides:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/sectio…
I was going to build one but ended up buying a used Mac Pro for a good price. I might eventually set up one of these.

— Gigabyte Z87X-OC Motherboard
— Intel i5 4670K
— 16GB RAM
— Power Supply
— SSD 240GB
— Wifi Card
— GeForce GTX 760So this build would set me at 1110€ which is a great price. I'm not including a case because that's something to consider using spare shit. What am I missing in that list? What should I buy also? I have mouse and keyboard with cord and I want to keep it that way. Have a shitty cheap monitor but that is OK for now, maybe a later on upgrade on that front. What else?
- PS. I have externals for extra storage, so not included in list..ESKEMA
- is that even cheaper than just getting a mac?inteliboy
- get an I7 if you canGeorgesIV
- the i7 difference is very little as I see it in reviews. why should U pay +90€ in your opinion other than it's slightly better?ESKEMA
- Sick. Is this for a tower or notebook. Thanks for the specs!instrmntl

seriously, no offense but it is really not difficult to put a computer together, you don't have to solder anything, you just have to read a manual and push things into slots, nothing really complicated,
for a hackintosh build as long as you buy the right hardware it should be a breeze (it's never that easy, but I consider messing around for hours getting everything to work a rite of passage)
once everything is setup right you shouldn't have any trouble, I didn't.. but I'm used to messing around with computers so I may not be the best person to judge the difficulty level
Good luck eskema
btw: an example of something that bugs sometime on mine is when I put it in sleepmode, how did I solve this problem???
>> I don't put it sleep mode

another thing that constantly blows my mind is when I run windows XP with virtualbox in my fake mac, always makes me smile :)
