I want to upgrade my imac 2ghz intel core to duo drive to 1 or 2 TB.
Is western digital the model of the drive?
Where can I find this information? I read somewhere if you upgrade the drive you should stick with the same brand because of the cooling sensors?
What drives do you guys suggest?
- ST3250820AS Q - I guess its a seagate?VikingKingEleven
- yeah, western digital is the brand of hard drive I used, if that's what you're asking.johnny_wobble

Seams to be a common thing here to stay on older versions of OS X with mackintoshes. How is the update process? like when a new OS gets out, I know you need to wait for others to make tests and all, but after that, when it's safe, how do you do it? just regular update from Apple or do you need to reinstall everything from scratch?

You'll have to be prepared to roll up your sleeves and do some work to get everything installed. Running a hackintosh is going to involve a lot more work than an iMac. It's not impossible, but you're going to have small problems now and again where shit just doesn't work, and it'll take some effort to sort it out.

I dual boot but honestly I've been in windows 10 for the last few months. Mainly because at this point my home desktop might as well be a chromebook.

Wouldn't it be a hilarious at this point if there was some terrible incompatibility with the hardware chosen and osx86? :)
- not really. bet he checked it all out.johnny_wobble
- All the parts have been vetted by others, it'll work :)scarabin

seriously, no offense but it is really not difficult to put a computer together, you don't have to solder anything, you just have to read a manual and push things into slots, nothing really complicated,
for a hackintosh build as long as you buy the right hardware it should be a breeze (it's never that easy, but I consider messing around for hours getting everything to work a rite of passage)
once everything is setup right you shouldn't have any trouble, I didn't.. but I'm used to messing around with computers so I may not be the best person to judge the difficulty level
Good luck eskema
btw: an example of something that bugs sometime on mine is when I put it in sleepmode, how did I solve this problem???
>> I don't put it sleep mode

another thing that constantly blows my mind is when I run windows XP with virtualbox in my fake mac, always makes me smile :)

Maybe a firewire card ESKEMA? If the mother board and video card are on tonyx86's list as working, you're fine. Just do your homework as you may have to apply certain patches. The motherboard and video card I bought specifically because the are known to work out of the box.
Have you looked here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/405-bu…
As far as OS's, I'm running the latest version of Mavericks. I downloaded the installer from Apple and patched it (very easy process) and installed. Once installed, I ran the regular ass update from the App Store to upgrade.

ran across a hackintosh subreddit

if the hardware bit scares you, you can always take the parts to a pc repair shop and they'll build it for you for like 100 bucks

yes, all the parts I listed came from tonymacx86. But because they seem really just the essential, I thought maybe people here could give examples of other parts that should be considered, like a FW card as you mentioned.

^ Even if you can afford it Mac Pros are currently a terrible deal. The last speed bump was only because intel no longer made the processors for the previous version.
- I'm not looking for a "deal"; this isn't Walmart. I need a functional machine to produce on.ideaist
- Quality > value...ideaist
- I agree with that, but the Mac Pro is such woefully bad value it isn't worth buying at all for now.animatedgif
- This is coming from someone who hasn't bought or considered buying a PC for 14 yearsanimatedgif
- Better off spending the money on a top end iMacanimatedgif
