New interview with zee BBC
http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/t…
- SteveJobs0
this last part of the interview is fascinating to me:
Q: Just a final thought. Do you see yourself... as some sort of messianic figure?
JA: Everyone would like to be a messianic figure without dying. We are bringing some important change about what is perceived to be the rights of people who expose abuses by powerful corporations and then to resist censorship attacks after the event. We are also changing the perception of the west.
Q: I'm talking about you personally.
JA: I'm always so focussed on my work, I don't have time to think about how I perceive myself... I had time to perceive myself a bit more in solitary confinement. I was perfectly happy with myself. I wondered what that process would do. Would I think "my goodness, how have I got into this mess, is it all just too hard?"
The world is a very ungrateful place, why should I continue to suffer simply to try and do some good in the world. If the world is so viciously against it ,why don't I just go off and do some mathematics or write some books? But no, actually, I felt quite at peace.
Q: You want to change the world?
JA: Absolutely. The world has a lot of problems and they need to be reformed. And we only live once. Every person who has some ability to do something about it, if they are a person of good character, has the duty to try and fix the problems in the environment which they're in.
That is a value, that, yes, comes partly from my temperament. There is also a value that comes from my father, which is that capable, generous men don't create victims, they try and save people from becoming victims. That is what they are tasked to do. If they do not do that they are not worthy of respect or they are not capable.
- I see not one question about his connection to the CIA, George Soros and the far left communists in europe and America. Great reporting! Really brings the details home!VikingKingEleven

I was talking about politics with a friend of mine recently and he offered an interesting theory on why radio is so completely dominated by right wing talk show hosts. To give some background for people who don't live in U.S., commercial talk radio here is 90% dominated by conservative political shows. And not even intelligent ones but people like Sean Hannity and Michael Savage.
Anyway, his theory is that being dependent on advertising, but without the large audience reach or production values you have in other media, companies are forced to shape their programming with the goal of cultivating a particular kind of audience...i.e., the most gullible, easily persuaded segment of society possible. After all who do you think you'll sell more used cars and commemorative U.S. coins to, people listening to "Masterpiece Theatre" or Rush Limbaugh? The Limbaugh listeners are probably the same ones who actually go out and buy the Snuggie for their wife or trade in their family heirlooms in the cash for gold program.
This is the same dynamic you see in pay per click affiliate marketing on the web where the most lucrative offers are always the ones that appeal to the dumbest people (Acai Berry, colon cleanser, etc). Therefore what people might mistakenly view as ideological bias on the part of these media companies is really just driven by smart economics.
- But it makes you wonder if capitalism has the direct effect at times of making society stupid.abettertomorrow
- Not that this has much to do with wikileaks, just came to mind based on a couple of the comments above.abettertomorrow
- < i read that and i agreemrghost
- Yep totally! And i can vouch for that pay per click theory! It's very true! My CTR is about a fifth of what it should be and i am convinced it is due to the (generally) more educated user base.Sneakybadger2

Apple just joined in on the hatorade and removed the wiki app from the app store.
- I don't know why they had that app. to begin with. It was 1.99 to view stuff your phone you can see for free anywhere.Dodecahedron
- Apparently $2 of the cost goes to wikileaks to something.instrmntl
- all the money goes to wikileaks ? I suppose its a way of generating money but ...Dodecahedron

LONDON (AP) — It has come to this: Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, is complaining that someone leaked a Swedish police report on his alleged sexual offenses.
- Dodecahedron0
He is not complaining about the leaks he is complaining about the timing and context. Wikileaks doesn't create an agenda or publish certain items at opportune times as he is claiming this was.
- Mr_Fantastic0
"delicious Irony"
talk about being easily distracted by what's really occurring.
- abettertomorrow0
Which irony is more delicious, Assange the leaker being annoyed by a leak about his case or...
the government showing that, after months of condemning Wikileaks as irresponsible anarchists, they're more than willing to resort to the exact same tactics when it suits them.
THIS FIGHT ISN'T OVER YET FOLKS...
- INFOWAR 2011abettertomorrow
- But they are NOT doing the exact same tactics. Wikileaks does not try and disrupt court cases by publishing leaks.Dodecahedron

You can't fight information with disinformation. Well, maybe here in America, but (un?)fortunately no one in middle American has idea what this story is actually about.
Back to Pepsi and Happy Meal dinners for all soon.
- Er, wait, I think McDonald's uses Coke products.dMullins

Middle America does whatever Glenn Beck or Hannity tells them to do.

let's just face it, democracy is dead.

Since its inception, the internet has provided new ways for people all over the world to exercise the rights of free speech, freedom of the press and freedom of assembly. These rights are not simply the benefits of a free society--they are the very means of preserving that society's freedom. The recent increase in government interference with these freedoms coincides with the failure of the corporate media to fulfill their vital role in checking the abuse of authority. Censorship and journalistic abdication have left citizens unaware and unable to hold their governments accountable.
WikiLeaks has moved to fill the void left by traditional news media, providing the necessary information for citizens to hold their governments to account. Yet it has not been granted the legal protections generally afforded to journalists. Instead, the organization has been vilified and monetary support has been blocked by governments and private corporations. The vitriol aimed at WikiLeaks demonstrates an unsettling disregard for the fundamental freedom to exchange information and express ideas. Members of a free society must not allow information to be suppressed simply because it inconveniences those in power. We share the responsibility to defend vital liberties. The time to act is now.
We are Anonymous, a leaderless movement that has worked tirelessly to oppose all forms of Internet censorship worldwide, from DMCA abuses to government mandated content filters. Our initiatives include supporting dissenting groups in Iran, Zimbabwe and Tunisia, as well as waging the highly visible information battle against the Church of Scientology. We are now prepared to take the fight to the world stage. Join us on January 15th for the first in a series of global protests in defense of WikiLeaks and freedom of expression. Stand with us to defend your freedoms.
We Are Anonymous And So Are You.

you guys notice how the wikileaks 'stories' match the media headlines/propaganda. I think we have been fooled or wikileaks has been infiltrated.
Assange keeps threatening people with an insurance file but it all seems like smoke and mirrors.
I wonder if they offered him a payoff when he got arrested?
- who knows, there is definitely lots going on behind the scenesDodecahedron
