Just curious....how many of you actually pay for your programs like Adobe and not...you know... get it from other sources such as torrents or friends....?
For those who actually bought legit software, do you think design software is overpriced?

You work designing software, right?

yes and yes.
write it off as a business expense, every bit helps.
im still using CS3 although i've been considering upgrading to 4 . i tend not to upgrade right away since in recent years they'v been changing interface elements and that fucks with my workflow.- If you use Flash, skip CS4.CyBrain
- don't get cs4.akrokdesign

I pay for every cs update. I think their software is worth the price, but some updates are just unnecessary and keep you thinking I could have saved that money. problem is, if you don't pay on that update, you pay double on the next.
then I use lots of opensource or shareware tools for other tasks, where I also try to license them if possible, or I make a donation to the developers.
I don't pay for the office soft, as I don't like it and there are enough alternatives online that work with their documents. As long as you are making money with a tool you should be ready to pay for it, that's why I buy software.
- in general I stay a whole update or so behind; makes little differencemonospaced

I pay for it. I feel like a complete sucker, but I pay for it.

I pay as much for software as I do for music.

I wonder what the sales from Adobe Photoshop would be if they lowered the cost. Say, they set price equal to the price of the latest Microsoft OS. ~$100
- raise the cost and make it WAY harder to pirate - you'd get rid of all those hack-shit desiners...identity

- Raise the price and get lots of more customers?
Food for thought...Peter - customers will go down - but that's the point - clear away the garbage from our saturated industryidentity
- probably not popular among adobe stockholder though...identity

haven't bought any version of CS yet... but i've purchased plenty of other very useful apps, like Coda, Vuze and even iLife (gasp!!)

Yes, because I am a legitimate designer.

I pay for it as I would expect people to pay me for my work...

I plan on writing it off as soon as I can add in the expense to a freelance job. Just haven't had a freelance project w/ a big enough budget

I pay full price for Creative Suite.
Considering that its your main tool to make your daily living, id say its worth it.

Just pay few bucks to buy pirated CD. :)

I always pay - time is very valuable and I can't be futzing around with cracking a hacked version
- TheRapture0
I paid for all of ours

I don't pay.
But I have yet to be using the software professionally, just finish uni and will soon be using it.
If I was using it freelancing to make my living professionally I would buy it.
