Baltimore.
City has cleaned up a lot. Lot of work. You can live 15 minutes out of the city (literally 15 min) and have wooded areas. 2 hours the beach, 1 hour the slopes. Big art scene. Huge music scene. Fairly low cost of living.

my parents are vacationing there (Portland, maine) right now. I got a call this morning and they told me "We're in Portland!" and I did a quick "OH SHIT! Hide all the paraphernalia and clean the house quick!" then they laughed and said "Portland Maine". Then out of the blue I just saw an article about it's one of the best places to live in the country, low crime, low cost of living, great food, etc etc etc...
I just hope the fixed gear hipsters haven't infected the area to bad yet. They're like bed bugs.

Canada - especially since you have a young child... worth the move, and with dollar-to-dollar parity a reality, you cannot lose.

I've lived in Portland Oregon for 12 years and I'm thinking of moving to Portland Maine to try something smaller.

Avoid the queah cities and think about Bawston. Maw affawdable than where all those queahs in New Yawk live, and the fackin Sawx rule.
If you work in the city prawpah, there ah plenty of smawlah neighborhoods around, like Sahmahville and Cambridge (fackin Hahvahd queahs), and all the way out to sahthahn New Hampsheh. Yah get a wicked lawt for your fackin dowllah, and the commutes aren't terrible.
Plus we got the Sawx, the Charles Rivah, and lawts of guys named Tawmmy.
- ey tony. wait up. i gotta bash this guys face in.iCanHasQBN

hoboken is a terrible idea.
you'll spend most of your time in nyc, and wish you had moved here.
brooklyn, queens and the bronx all have nice areas.- lots of friends in brooklyn.zenmasterfoo
- also living in jersey but working in manhattan will force you to pay a commuters tax..e-pill
- your taxes will be higher than those living in nyc itself..e-pill
- plus... you'll be living in new jerseydirtydesign
