I personally prefer the single page format, especially when used alongside JQuery and such to provide 'smart' functionality - so much so, this is exactly how I built my last site.
Trouble is, I'm not my users and as I think I've already mentioned here - my users didn't get it.
I'm currently rejigging my site to make sure all the essentials are above, or at least very near to the fold.
*shrugs*
- I should perhaps just concede that I'm not a very brilliant designer...detritus

I'm still trying to convince colleagues that scrolling within windows is bad.

I think more sites should offer the option of using arrow keys to navigate through blog posts or search results. It's almost always faster than clicking on a next button.

and of course, given different screen resolutions, "the fold" is a bogus concept now.... I like to show client a mockup on a netbook, and on his desktop at the same time....

But seriously, when I'm reading a long article with 4 or 5 pages, I click on PRINT THIS, so I can scroll it all on one page and not have my thought process inturupted by a page reload and have to wait for all the ads,etc...

Lots of fashion photographers use sideways scrolling.... very few seem to use vertical scrolling except in blogs.... has anyone seen a good photographer's portfolio with vertical scrolling?

sideways scrolling kind of blows though...
- +1 to this, not as intuitive to go left/right with mouse, up/down very naturald_rek
- horizontal scrolling needs buttons to allow transition between horizontal areas.NickInfozure

content worth scrolling to read or see is a good thing.... in my mind better than clicking and hitting BACK and doing it again....
Run-on writing and meaningless filler stock photos gave scrolling a bad name.... and the press-release cut-paste pile of content from corporate PR people didn't help either.....

suck:a free scrolling. :-)

Ever write a post here, re-write it, backspace, re-write... think fuck-it then scroll up and just click another thread?

You suffer from "clientcramitallinoneplaceabovet...
Combat that with "it does not look premium".

a site that is single page gets closed instantly as i can see what it is without a thought.. a site that shows more that showcases its thought is a site that has scrolling..
dont do single pages or else your hard work will be shut off closed down with in seconds and never will any links be clicked... because what is the point , i saw the best what that designer can do.. all in 1 page..
meh.
please think larger than my screen size.. please make me explore your imagination, your creativity, or else you are just regular AM RADIO!!!
