    just a few more gripes...
I hate having to try to figure out what car is eligible for a race then have to go find it in the used car show room. There has to be an easier way that trying to remember 15 cars or writing them down.

Also I wanted to try to race 'carts online one night. After waiting to get into a room and waiting and watching them finish the race I went to hit start/enter race and it told me I didn't have a 'cart to race with and I didn't feel like trying to figure out where to buy one and start all over.

All in all my biggest gripe is to much hunting around, flipping through pages and not enough racing.

Looks great though when you can finally race.

    • yyyep. not all of us want to 'level up' approach to a *racing* game, we wanna race!SteveJobs
    • Totally agree fooler2.seeessess
    • if you want to level up do the special events. If you want cars do the license test.elektro
    • Arcade mode. Dont need to level up there.CygnusZero4

Buy a 1970 Dodge Challenger as soon as you can, it can compete in 4 or 5 series, including the Gran Turismo World Championships and win them all.

    • Fully tuned, almost 800hp...handles better than you think when its lightened, stiffened, and you set the suspension right.JackRyan

anyone played this in 3d yet?

    • I did at best buy, kinda fun till the glasses gave me a headache.Andrew_D

so i've been working toward a good used car, and after finishing license they hand me this Acura DN-X Concept '02.. now it's not a matter of whether i win a race with this thing, but how close i get to lapping the guy in last position.. it's that fast. (granted, these are level 0-7 races). kinda defeated the purpose of me working so hard for a specific used car..

update: i've gone from being a bit skeptical about this game to really being hooked on it, haha. i've got gold on all the races up through expert and i'm knocking those out pretty easy - especially when i can use this car here:

i wasn't too sure about it when it was first given to me, i mean it's a ford, but it out handle's and performs any other car in my garage.

my biggest problem with this game are the tests. getting bronze is too easy, but silver or gold is sometimes near impossible - or i just don't have the patience. and probably the absolute hardest thing in gaming history for me was the IA-10 test.. ffffuuuuuuu. it disqualifies you for going off the road even just a little, or the slightest bump of another car, even if it's their fault. i probably started that race over 40 times before finally winning bronze at 7th place.. had to do it though to get a truck, which is a requisite for one of the beginner races..

    • Such is the gift & curse of GT games... Good hustle SteveJobs!ideaist
    • its not a ford it's THE FORD that took on Ferrari!fooler
    • I'm sure I must've clocked up over 100 starts on that fkn IA-10 test. Bastad other cars kept ramming into me after I slip through.Ranger

How old are you SteveJobs? were you playing video games when they were fucking impossible? Like you had 3 lives and once you died it was game over, start from the fucking beginning, no continues and no save spots? Remember pole position, the slightest bump of another car caused a fucking explosion with bits of your car flying in all directions.
You had to be a complete masochist to play games back in the day.

    • but there was no greater sense of accomplishment than finishing them, or completing a level like you described_niko
  • SteveJobs0

yeah, i know what you mean, _niko. ninja gaiden, swimming level in tmnt, ghouls and ghosts, landing the plane in top gun. it's just been a while since i've been up against something that difficult. games these days are more about the journey than getting the most out of 5 short levels through sheer difficulty, so it was pretty intense

  • Andrew_D0

Just bought it, what's up with the 608mb update? I'm house sitting and the wireless connection is balls with no ethernet cables in sight. Ho-hum, let down before I can even get started! ;-)

    (looking forward to playing, though.)

    • I didn't notice any difference after doing this. Said it needed 8gb on the disk too!Ranger
  • JackRyan0

Steve, how did you get the Gulf? I can't find it to buy it, did you win it by beating the classic race car series in expert? I can't find a good car to beat that series with.

  • Andrew_D0

Can't believe people were disappointed with this game, it's pretty fun once you get a few wins under your belt.

  • SteveJobs0

ahh sorry, i posted the wrong ford gt. mine is the newer lm race car:

don't even remember what i won it for. i think it was one of those random 'grab bag' ticktets.

Jack, the classic car race is one of three i have left to beat in expert mode, the others being the last two. i'm just holding off on it because i don't have any car that comes even close to what you're up against in that race. i blew like 60k on tuning a '70 dodge challenger, and i couldn't even pace the other cars... will prolly save up for that shelby cobra at the dealer and see if it's enough to take them on. used car lot hasn't had shit lately..

    • LOL...I tried with the Challenger and failed as well, the Cobra might do it, but there's still a horse power disadvantage there.JackRyan

I can't believe how long the menus take to load up, each level takes about 10 seconds, and you have to go in and out one level at a time, it drives me mad. The tracks too take so long to load up, it's like going back to the days of my spectrum. I did the update that took all day to download, warned me would use 8 gb of HD space but would reduce loading times - it did FA. Did it work for anybody else?

P.S. I agree about the annoying aspect of having to figure out which cars can be used in which races while you're in the dealers, it doesn't add to the experience, just a list within the car description of eligible races would do it. Then the menus in and out going between the 2 to check - ARRGHHHHHH.

Hell of a game though, I'm completely hooked despite the gripes.

    • Make sure you're not connected to PSN while playing offline, it really helps.CygnusZero4
    • The wait times are ridiculous, I was thinking about the 8GB install, but I guess that's a waste.Andrew_D
    • I thought you had to be connected?Andrew_D
    • No you don't but it still tries to connect like every other fucking screen...FUUUUUUUUUU...Naygon
    • It only does that when you first try to go into GT Life. After that it will stay offline.CygnusZero4
  • SteveJobs0

yeah, i was blown away by how slow the download and install went over fiber, and then even more so when i realized the load time seemed about the same. anyone know if that can be undone easily? i don't really fiddle with my ps3 enough to know what all i can do with it. i mean, i JUST finally got around to updating it for the very first time, and this is the original v1 console!

  • Andrew_D0

JackRyan, I've done what you said with the challenger, now how the fuck do I get it to go faster than 105mph? Hahahaha.... it get's there in no time with 730HP, but won't go any faster. What the heck am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance!

    • Shit, my transmission timing was way off. Hahaha....oh boy, now I can go 250mph! ;-)Andrew_D
  • SteveJobs0

Andrew_D, can you elaborate on the transmission timing? I'm still not crazy about the car because it handles like a boat, but if there are transmission tweaks that are available, I might use them for other cars.

  • SteveJobs0

anyone made it past level 21? it's sooo sloooow...

also, wish there were more race cars available to purchase. online store, used cars and dealer all mostly have touring cars which even when fully tuned won't cut it against their full-fledged race cars.

and still haven't got my hands on a good vintage car yet for the expert class race. supposedly there's an old z-28 or ss camaro or something that once tuned is pretty fast, but haven't come accross it yet..

    • Not there yet, I'm pretty shit. I've been losing my cool trying to win the final go-cart races.Andrew_D
    • The GF shakes her head, when I start yelling at the screen. "I've never seen you get this angry and over stupid video games".Andrew_D
  • Andrew_D0

If you buy the "fully adjustable" gearbox or whatever (it's 20,000) you'll get well over 200mph by going into the tuning section and cranking the mph as far as it goes. Sorry, this is a really crap explanation, I'd take screen grabs if I was at home.

I agree, though, the fucker drives like a boat. I've just got to level 17. What pisses me off is not being able to sell shitty cars I've won along the way, so I just leave them in the garage as reminder of my triumphs. ;-)

Also, how the fuck do I save up a couple million to pay for a wicked race car? I think the most cash I've had is like 450,000. I then spunked it on that fucking Challenger, which has done well, but I think I'll get twatted in the Expert class.

  • kumori040

best way to gain XP and credits = seasonal events - bonus races.

    • Which I'm totally shit at. Can you race them more than once and get credits still?Andrew_D
    • Yeah, most of the bonus races are pretty easy to run, with only tires and suspension upgrades. Try doing the ones that ask for slower cars. Those are easier to win.kumori04
    • ...slower cars. Those are easier to win.kumori04
  • SteveJobs0

yeah, i figured out how to set the gear ratio's for certain races. basically, i opt for lower output if i'm about to enter into a race with a lot of turns, but with the indianapolis speedway, on the other hand, i opened it up a bit more. it shifts at a higher RPM, but i can kiiiiinda hold my own against those true race cars out there with my ford gt lm race car. brought my position from like 7th to 3rd.

they kinda make you 'grind' a lot, and by grinding i mean, doing races over and over to level up and get more cash - wich is annoying for the higher-level races where you're doing 5 laps.

one of my biggest gripes about this game is the shady AI. i've noticed this and you probably have too, but if you can pass cars near the beginning of the race, you can hold your lead fairly easily, even with sloppy, slowish driving as long as you don't crash. BUT, if you do fall behind for whatever reason, the cars that pass you go into fucking god-mode and they grace every corner and straigh-away with unbelievable precision. and no matter how fast you punch it, and how tight you hit those corners, catching up is damn near futile.

i really enjoy the game, but it's far from perfect.

    • Ha! Well spoken! The passing thing is spot on, I've fucking mashed my way into the first corner many a time to come..Andrew_D
    • out in first after it because it'd be impossible to win if I didn't. I'm almost at the point where I wish for a code to unlock every..Andrew_D
    • every car just so I can drive them.Andrew_D
    • do the seasonal events to get more alot of cash & exp !elektro
