I sent my client a CMYK PDF for print. They claim "it is still in ICC profile, for printing the standard requirement is CMYK format."
WTF does ICC have to do with CMYK? It's either RGB or CMYK. If ICC is embedded, that's a separate issue.
What the hell are they talking about?

ICC profiles are a crucial building block for color management and play an important role for describing PDF/X and PDF/A output intents. The common sRGB ICC profile is built into PDFlib, and can be used without any additional configuration.
ICC profiles for other common printing conditions, especially CMYK, are available for download in the ICC packages on this page. They can be used with various PDFlib features, including image tagging and specifying output intents for PDF/X and PDF/A.
After unpacking the profiles they must be configured in PDFlib according to the documentation (e.g. using the SearchPath resource category).

when you save, you can convert to the destination ICC profile under output > color, and not embed it.

what they said indicates they may not know what ICC and CMYK really mean.... you may want to just ask them if you can talk to somebody else....

one of the guys i work with tell people this when they start acting egotistical about their work. we can run it either way thru our printers- most of the color correction comes in the rip anyway, but he always gets a good laugh out of it... we all get a good laugh our of it. the next step is to ask the freelancer his or her expected gamut. if they are still pretending to know, then he asks for a favorite profile.
easiest thing to do is to ask for a swatch as is, we usually do it for free as it saves everyone money.- I'd just tell you I require a press check to sign off on color. Eliminate this techno banter.Cosmodrome
