in the middle of the night while she's sleeping gently saw off her finger, take it to a wait, wait a minute what am i thinking... i should have said a hand saw just so we're clear. do NOT use a power saw as this may wake her. you don't want to make the same mistake i did. and whatever you do DON'T wear a hockey mask while doing it even if it is the playoffs and your favorite team is in the running. I did it during the Blackhawks run 4 years ago and it didn't end well.
Honestly, there's no easy way. if you ask one of her friends for help or her mother you'll run the risk of them spilling the beans. what i ended up doing was one day while walking around the mall together i acted like i wanted to try out some rings because i was thinking about getting one for my index finger. so i started to try some on with the help of the jeweler. after some time so did my girl. i took notice on which ones fit and which ones didn't and went back the next day by myself and asked them what the size was of the one that fit.
a buddy of mine got lucky with his. his girl went with her friend who just got engaged ring shopping. he asked what stores they were going to (casually) and that was that. the next day he want to the stores and described the girl who had been there the day before and asked if she had mentioned one that she liked. she in fact did and they knew her size from the rings she was trying on. he bought the ring she fell in love with and she wasn't even expecting it.

i'm not gonna read the thread, but i have a suggestion
offer to have her jewelry cleaned since you're gonna have something of yours done anyway. take her shit to a jeweler and ask what size they are. (make sure to actually have them cleaned)

Wait till she's dwuuuunk and passed out. Roll a bit of Blu-Tack or Play-Doh into a snake, then roll round her finger ... temporary ring!

just ask the last guy who proposed to her

did you figure it out yet?
hold her hand in yours and pay close attention to it, maybe compare the fingers approx size to one of yours? depending on how big your hands are. usually a guys pinky equals a girls ring finger. also most girls usually wear a 6 or 7. good luck! :)- hold her hand?? girls are icky and have cooties!iCanHasQBN

I went through every measure possible to get the right ring/size but it still ended up being too big. Roll of the dice mate.
Best bet is to steal a ring that is the right size for her ring finger, take it to a jeweler, have them measure, and then return the ring before she notices.
The issue I ran into was the STYLE of ring. Some rings are tagged as one size but fit larger/smaller because of the STYLE - thick band vs. thin band or open band vs. closed (complete circle). Open bands will feel larger on the hand, thus needing a smaller than normal size.
Good luck.

If they can keep a secret, ask her girlfriends or mother?

Congrats matey! I had to buy a 'token' ring to propose with and then we went shopping together for the actual ring.
Not ideal, but it was one way of not spending a small fortune on the wrong size/style ring.
Just my two pence :-)
Good luck!
