nice work, rubbish site, noticed it does work faster if you use the keyboard to navigate NAWTY

Reminds me a little bit of my website. That is to say, I like the work within but am already looking forward to the next version.
- Not that my work is anywhere near as good as Michael's.gramme
- yes it istank
- Well bless your sweet heart, as my client in North Carolina would say.gramme
- I admire your work gramme. It inspires me just as much as this, if not more.monospaced
- how long before you actually just build a new site instead of moaning on here about the current one?bumdrizzle
- That's the question burning in my mind, analeakage.gramme

Painful

what are you guys whining about its pretty ease to use and all portfolio material is full screen.
- ckentish0
beautiful work - hide button is pretty obvious for removing text.
this is so nice - kind of wrong in a right way.

I like it. I think it should default to the hide option with an obvious 'show info' tab. Would make it easier for my brain to digest.

The one Digital Club designed was much better

Make the arrows clickable too... I'm instinctively clicking them

i cant be assed to work out how this site works and find the work that everyone is saying is oh so inspiring and groundbreaking.
and if i, a designer, cant be assed to delve any further then why would any potential clients?
they obviously ride on their name and presented portfolio (in person/creds) and not via their website.
its a shocking way to showcase work.

I'm truly shocked there's not more anti-Build sentiment in this thread. The true haters must wake up after 10AM PST.
That said, I'm not really digging this sit too much (did I wake up too early?). Build's body of print work is absolutely amazing to me. And while I think this site looks nice, I do not like the overall aesthetics of it. Long lines of type that span the entire browser window are not an easy read, so I found myself not reading it at all; and since I didn't read it, I never saw the Hide/Show at the end of the copy until I read through this thread – then when I do click Hide/Show, the transition is clunky and inhibited (I agree that the default should be 'Hide' with a Show option). I don't like how the main nav is insanely minimalistic to the point that it's the exact same format as the body copy, with the exception of line-height maybe. And yes, please make the arrows clickable.

The long and short of it is that it's Build ffs, I'm pretty certain that he has long established himself and does not rely on his web presence to gain new business... He could have a video of himself shitting on one of his cats and I doubt it's going to affect clients coming to him to provide a visual solution that has his individual approach attached to it...
To this point —
"However - I think that any designed interface needs to solve problems, rather than present users with difficulties."It's definitely a valid point of view, but also potentially quite limiting, as designers, if we don't challenge conventions and especially in cases like a personal portfolio site, push people out of their comfort zones then we're missing a big opportunity... People are complacent, society is lazy, if we don't continue to push things that are possibly outside of standard convention then all we are doing is reinforcing the notion that it's ok to not have to think about what we're doing... The 2 click society is not one that I believe is worth investing in...

to paraphrae a recent thread I opened about Sagmeister's godawful site "who needs a cool website with an amazing body of work".
I disagree with this sentiment and do kind of like the site but yep it does have a few issues - needs smoother javascript work.

Great

The work is simply outstanding.
I think there is a lot wrong with this site unfortunately.
Too long a list to go through. It would have been better just to have the index page as their main homepage.
