Anyone watch Hollywood Treasures on SyFy? The science fiction icons they auction are amazing. And the collectors they encounter are great. Very interesting.

Follow-up: Robopocalypse is basically a dumbed down version of World War Z, following the same template of stories about the war compiled afterwards. Some interesting and horrifying ideas (like elevators murdering buildings full of senior citizens) though.

For some reason I'm really wary about getting into the Culture books. I've read his Algebraist, which a lot of people say is similar to the setting of his Culture books but a different universe, and mostly liked it, but it had this flashback/revenge plot line that really added nothing to the story (and I can't even remember how it ended), allusions to an AI underground... it was just a bit too scattered.
So should I give the Culture series a try?
- Yes, yes you should. Start from the beginning - "state of the art" short stories has first taste of culturedetritus

I though Algebraist was pretty weak compared to the Culture stuff. The black humour that permeates the Culture books is what sets them apart for me. Definitely recommend taking the plunge. Suggest starting with Consider Phlebas or Look to Windward.
