For some reason I'm really wary about getting into the Culture books. I've read his Algebraist, which a lot of people say is similar to the setting of his Culture books but a different universe, and mostly liked it, but it had this flashback/revenge plot line that really added nothing to the story (and I can't even remember how it ended), allusions to an AI underground... it was just a bit too scattered.
So should I give the Culture series a try?

I always thought Babylon5 was the best SCiFi TV series. I mean, sure Star Trek gets the nostalgia vote, but overall B5 was in a class by itself.
