Hello? I have been looking at Mamiya 7's for a long time. Somehow I did not realize the 6 is more up my alley.
Anyone know how much lighter/faster/better/worse it is firsthand?

i have no freaking idea, having only handled a 7 for 2 minutes and having never touched a 6, but i'm glad this thread exists to counter the "which dslr" threads (: good luck!

I know there are some pro dudes on here. Get into it!

Mamiya 6 is a 6x6 (bonus for me) and has an averaging meter. Mamiya 7 is spot meter only so you need to be more experienced to get a proper exposure every time (not easy to use in certain circumstances). The Mamiya 6 is also older and probably cheaper on the used market.
- Mamiya 7 has a wider selection of lenses though.Tungsten

- Is that a Bronica 645 down there? Ideally I would not be spending much more than a thousand buckaroos.grafiske
- This Fuji looks great.grafiske
- Yeah it's a Bronica 645... It's a weird little camera and I've heard mixed reviewsTungsten
- The bronica's shutter sounds strange.... and company is gone too...vaxorcist
- that Fuji give very nice transparencies.... I've seen quite a few...vaxorcist

I am okay with the lens selection - although I want the 50mm most of all, and only the 50. Looks like it might cost me the most money, but that is fine.
I basically just want to do bigger prints than 35mm allow and I want the easiest most compact medium format possible. I also really like the way these cameras are built.

- how much?sofakingbanned
- HUGE.... fun, and quirky interlocks..... practice a whole lot....vaxorcist
- i scored mine used for around $550 with a WLF and 100mm 2.8 lens + 120 film back.sherm
- i've got a related camera - rb67 pro-s. they are good but NOT portable.bigtrickagain

I've shot the 6 a bit, less so the 7, only a couple times...
The 6 feels great in my hands, the 7 almost as nice, but not quite so nimble...Mamiya 6 seems more solid body than 7
Mamiya 6 seems to have a more precise meter pattern
Mamiya 6's 50mm lens supposedly has less nice bokeh than Mamiya 7's 65mm lens....
.. and of course, the 6 is 6x6 and the 7 is 6x7
The first version of the 7 seems to have a button that falls off a bit according to a guy I know who has one.. he superglued it back on....I LOVE my TLR.... a 50's Minolta Autocord, I had a Rolleiflex 3.5E Planar for a while, I miss it... if you're looking for wide twin-lens reflex, only the RolleiWide $$$ or the slightly clunky and unmetered Mamiya C33/C220/C330 with a 55mm lens, but that 55 is nice....

but hey, these days used 'blads are cheaper than ever.... and the viewfinder is soooo nice.... the distagon is cool too....

Iskra II... I had once once... very cool early 60's soviet folding 120 rangefinder, the only good soviet camera I've ever used.... viewfinder not so great, but great tessar lens.... takes a TON of practice...

Unfortunately they're either collectors prices or somewhat trashed on ebay these days....

Interesting - here's an article on the Mamiya 6 that has a direct comparison with the Fuji GA645 at the end:
http://www.dantestella.com/techn…he concludes that in terms of image quality, it's a wash between the two. the fuji is probably cheaper to buy than the mamiya though.

it does seem like the ga645 is more compact, and it's probably lighter (plastic construction vs. metal), but the exposure area is smaller...

You can't compare 6x7 to 6x4.5
They are two different formats, two different resolutions.
Fuji's new 6x7 (GF 670) is compact and light. You can shoot both 6x6 or 6x7 and 120 or 220.
Only thing Is you can't change lenses, but the lens it has is great.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/pr…I've shot a ton of cameras, hassey's all the fuji's (6x4.5 6x9 6x7), and the GF670
Mamiya 7II is a great camera with great lenses. I highly recommend it.
Mamiya 6 is great too, and you'll probably find a chaper used one, but you can always crop the 6x7 to make square, so you'll have the options.

Mamiya 7's also have the option to shoot panoramic 35mm... not sure if the 6 has this feature.
