I have a 2008 iMac, and I am not sure if this RAM is the right type, but I need an upgrade, so here I am asking for your help...

I don't know much about hardware, so please let me know if this is the right type. I have a 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, running 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM right now.
Thanks, really appreciate it.

go to the apple menu (top left) select "about this mac" then select more info. in the list on the left there will be "memory" it will show you what you have in it.

open up your computer and check what is the ram mem now?

I'm almost certain your 2008 iMac can't support 4GB of RAM. That being said, it seems like the right type of memory.

fyi you always need memory in pairs... 2 - 2
4 - 4, etc...- yes - pairs. you'll likely be running 2 x 1GB sticksbulletfactory
- Yah, I have 2 x 1GB now. Going to drop in 2 x 2GB now.dMullins

Thanks, always helpful. I found what I needed thanks to this thread. Maximum memory is 4GB for this model :( and maximum of 2GB in each port. Doubling up is better than nothing though.

Looks like the right memory but unless you have a single 2Gb stick you'd need to replace what you have by a pair of 2Gb sticks, Crucial are happy to sell you 4Gb for that machine.
