The Irish supported Hitler? They were NEUTRAL - didn't you watch the movie?
- TheBlueOne0
“Israel's decision-makers should have revived memories of Israel's own history. It shows just how short a historical memory the prime minister, defense minister, chief of staff, and Navy commander all have. They don't remember the story of the Exodus ship in 1947.
The British Mandate authorities imposed a blockade on the shores ofthe land of Israel and Jewish leaders believed it was their right and their duty to break it. The Jewish immigrants on the Exodus decided to forcefully oppose every attempt to stop them. The Jewish leadership wanted to arouse the world's conscience and gain a victory in the battle for international sympathy.”

Remember, the Irish supported Hitler but i wouldn't expect any of you brainwashed inept's to know that.
Keep falling for the propaganda. It shows your intelligence level.

well, they knew israel was going to stop them, regardless of any international law(s). I'm not justifying Israel's action, certainly no logical human being could, however they should've known it would end up like this.
- There is a reasonable expectation, though, that Israeli would respect the notion of international waters.Continuity
- reasonable? not really, considering their past actions that clearly defy international law.dorf
- Yeah, sorry. I was judging things on how I would act.Continuity

fuck the israeli for calling their actions as "self-defense" and for the safety of israel and its people. how can it be called self-defense when you board a vessel in international water by repelling from a helicopter and wearing military gear??
so israel is basically claiming that if a stranger breaks into your home with weapons, it's not encouraged for you to defend your home, because if you do it's justifiable for the stranger to kill you because the stranger was acting in self-defense?? even pro-israeli can't deny that this is twisted logic, right?? naaah... i'm hoping too much
of course the world is just going to "condemn" the actions taken by the israeli military. the u.n. is just going to look the other way, the european union is just going to roll their eyes. and the u.s., well, they're basically israel's bitch...

remember, when all the world was searching for the womd? question is, whrer there any weapons on this ships? and why didn't the israelis guide the ships somewhere to search them?
- the israelis suggested the ships go through ashdod port where they would be searchedadded_valium
- well. so it's stupid to do not so.pascii

What is the date order for EXIF data? is it yyyy/mm/dd?
Someone pointed out that the camera was only released in June 2006....
but since when are kitchen knives, tools required for use on a ship and bullet proof vests classed as weapons?

I doubt they didn't know the dangers of what they were doing considering Israel has attacked many aid ships in the past. I doubt they thought they would murder 10 or more civilians.
also, it is worth pointing out the use of collective punishment and the blocking of the gaza port is subject to a UN security cuoncil resolution that Israel are ignoring.
"SECURITY COUNCIL CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE, DURABLE, FULLY RESPECTED CEASEFIRE IN GAZA LEADING TO FULL WITHDRAWAL OF ISRAELI FORCES
Resolution 1860 (2009) Adopted by 14 in Favour, Abstention by United States;
Also Calls for Unimpeded Humanitarian Assistance, Welcomes Egyptian Initiative
Gravely concerned by the deepening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and the resulting heavy civilian casualties “since the refusal to extend the period of calm” between Israel and Hamas, the Security Council this evening stressed the urgency of and called for an “immediate, durable and fully respected ceasefire, leading to the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza”.

Funny how the US launch a criminal probe on an oil spill, but attack a ship of civilians in interantional waters? Go right ahead, just be sure to investigate yourselves afterwards, y'all.
Oil > everything else

@ NickKristof I didn't RT early reports of Israeli military assault on #Gaza flotilla, 'cause I thought "Israel wldn't be that stupid."

I dunno. I think this time might be different. Times they are a-changin'...I think geopolitics is entering a new phase of instability after the status quo of the Cold War era, combined with the current economic meltdown and the rise of regional powers. The US has alot of influence here, but this will be an opportunity for Turkey, Russia and India, to name a few to start crafting middle east/oil geopolitics to their respective liking and not just kowtow to the American line re: the Middle East & Israel.
There be monsters here.

I fucking hate David Brooks. He's the most mealy minded pundit in the universe. Yet the Times keeps publishing him. Today's fantastic insight:
"The Israelis were clearly not going onto those ships with violence on their minds. The extremists on the boats started beating them and then threw a soldier over the railings. The international community is indulging in the usual double standards when condemning Israel. The world delights in being outraged by Israeli actions but somehow is slow to anger at Arab state supported terror."
http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes…
Ahem. *"...slow to anger at Arab state supported terror".
Really? Really?
I'm going to let go the whole concept that soldiers with automatic weapons lowered from helicopter gunships didn't have "violence on their minds" to focus on the second bit...
Can someone get Mr. Brooks on the phone and tell him we have in the last decade invaded, not one, but TWO countries involved in Arab state sponsored terror. One of them invaded on trumped up charges, in fact. Somethign involving Yellow Cake. We have killed countless people in this response. At this moment we also have robots taking out terror suspects in a third Arab/muslim nation (that'd be Pakistan). We have set up a vast shadow security operation with secret jails. We have upended established Constitutional law and I have to take my motherfucking shoes off to get on a fucking plane.
All because we are "slow" to respond to Arab State Supported Terror.
I would say the popularity of shows like "24" which feature a rugged, handsome American operator torturing swarthy arabic persons for vital information might perhaps fall under the "taking delight in being outraged" as well.
What was the last time the US voted against Israel in the UN Security Council? On anything? Ever? Do we have a popular entertainment program that features Israeli human rights violations in heart-gripping episodic fashion? Maybe a television miniseries about the sinking of the USS Liberty maybe? No?
Fucking someone give that asshat a reality fucking pill. But this passes as informed, conventional wisdom in the US leading national newspaper. We're slow to respond to Arab State Terror. What fucking color is the sky in his world?

So...an American girl gets shot in the face by the IDF a few hours ago...
You'd think this would be front page news with an American media that spent weeks talking about Natalie Holloway's disappearance and the kid in the balloon. But there is literally not one mention in the mainstream press.
- Dude, it took ten hours for CNN to even mention the flotilla attack...TheBlueOne
- and that surprises you?__TM

I believe this debate will end up the same way as every debate the world ever has,
in a cul de sac,
nothing will be done, no real inquest will be conducted, nobody will be inculpated.
same ol', same ol- Particularly since we, ordinary people who aren't in a position of authority, can't realistically do anything to change the situation.Continuity
