No, it doesn't have to be trendy... as long as it is near, clean and not preferably under $200...

Got some options to choose from. I'll be getting there late night and leaving early morning.
Which one of these would you recommend? Which is better located or closer to where I'm going (SVA)?

DO NOT GO TO THE RADISSON MARTINIQUE.
I work opposite it. Not sure what its like insite but the area is Meh to say the least. Its not quite as bad as Time Square but a close second!

and of course The Gershwin Hotel very contemporary and affordable. The location is great too.

Yess! hotels are getting pricey.
I'm going with the missus and so far, I'm staying at The Shoreham. The area looks pretty OK and the hotel seems nice. Unless I'm way off...

Out of curiosity, i just did a search on hotels.com for Thursday nov4 - Sunday Nov7 and there are a few of options under $200 in the city. Granted they are only 2stars, but you'll probably be out and about the whole time anyways. Even the more expensive hotels here still have really small rooms if you get their lowest room options.
Alternatively, if you stay in Brooklyn you can save money too.
These are both good clean options in neighborhoods with lots to do and short commutes to the city:

I randomly stayed at the Bowery Hotel for an evening about a week ago - was pretty nice, and hey were cool about keeping my bike inside.

Portland Square Hotel
I stayed here once. Very no frills, but clean. It was a few years ago so I'm sure it's a little more expensive now. Right off Times Square, close to subway etc...
