^ that doesn't even make sense. most people who know as3, already know js, and jquery is something you learn in an afternoon. it's not a full-on language or technology.
anyway, i don't think this has anything to do with loyalty. we're talking about the need and practical uses of flash technology.
- HTML5 (and silverlight, to a lesser extent) is eroding the need however. Adobe isn't staying above the curve.kpl
- html5 will take a while to get traction thanks to ie. and lol @ silverlight.SteveJobs
- ok fine, silverlight is a joke. But ie lost it's ability to dictate the future web a long time ago.kpl
- fair enough.SteveJobs

It makes plenty of sense. Despite what you say, a lot of designers started with Flash and for some reason got the idea that other programming languages were this horrible scary thing. Flash is a "designers" tool, other languages are "for programmers." I guarantee you a lot of people in the industry think that way.
- you don't have a very good perception of the industry. we've already covered that.SteveJobs
- Nail on the head ukit...ideaist
- Most flash developers also NEED to know server-side languages link php, asp, etcPixter
- Your superior attitude is getting old Steve...I got nothing against you but you keep trying to make it personalukit

>flash is like geocities. adobe created a tool to make publishing for the web too easy. the result is that everyone and their dog has 'learned' flash and done something 'creative' with it. there are tons of great uses of flash out there, but understandibly many more really, really bad ones.
StewieJobs, I'll pretend for a minute that Flash is geocities.
Is it a bad thing a lot of people can easily make their presence on the web,
or is the web just for us special, creative people who can also code? Preferably in notepad because that is more 'hardcore'.

^ good question. i'm just commenting on what i've seen. i think the perception of flash has been tainted because of all the crap we've seen. however, none of us were very good with flash the first time we started out, so...
flash has evolved as a technology and a development tool. i'm not particularly in favor of the direction adobe has taken it. they've practically abandoned designers, it seems almost forcing them to become competent oo developers. and for programmers, they started off ok, but left everyone wanting more and they have yet to deliver on many ends.
- A simple "no" would have sufficed ;)
Seriously, don't cut people off. Let people get creative even if you think they're doing a crap job at it. In whatever medium they choose.Peter - ...Let people get creative even if you think they're doing a crap job at it. In whatever medium they choose.Peter

@ukit
sorry, bro. but you just spew so much nonsense on here with little backing or experience. you're certainly not without your valid points, but it's becoming hard to take you seriously and i only post here sometimes in response so you don't poison the minds of the rest with your limited understanding.
sorry, i don't mean to make it personal. i respect you in all other areas, but if you're going to engage us in these technical discussions i'm going to call you out on your lack of objectivity or experience.

"At the end of the day, if you can learn AS3, you can easily learn Javascript/ JQuery."
That was nonsense? LOLLL
Get your head out of your ass Steve. You "respect me in other areas?" You don't even know me, bro.

- Pretty funny. Ukit is actually my middle name:Dukit
- SteveJobs0
it's nonsense, because your sentence implies it's an either/or situation.
and no, i don't know you, but you've been on qbn a while and i have had no objections to any of your other posts. i respect all until they give me reason not to.
don't get so worked up. it's a healthy debate. i'm calling you out. if i'm wrong (quite possible) prove yourself and make me look like i really do have my head up my ass. i don't see what the big deal is.
- No offense, but I think you're doing a great job of that yourself:)ukit
- What about that statement implies either/or, and isn't the overall point true anyway?ukit
- Nitpicking bro, nitpickingukit
- ukit0
Um, no actually nothing about that statement implies either/or.
You're wrong Steve! Wrong! OMG! You're full of crap Steve! You have no knowledge of the industry!!!
See what I did there?
Anyway, all I've said in these threads is that I think Flash is on the decline, it won't die completely but Javascript and HTML5 will supersede it on most large consumer-facing sites. So give it a rest, there are plenty of people on here with a valid opinion besides yourself.
- No one listen to SteveJobs anymore, he's completely unqualified to comment in this threadukit
