wow, some of you appear like you never browsed the internet if you don't see the usefulness of flash all over... Are you all guy still stuck in the iPad 1997 days???
- you misspelled "abusefulness."kpl
- i only hope you are getting a hefty paycheck from Apple for spreading that miss information.pr2
- no. but they are funding my retirement. you see that stock price? wooooo!kpl
- so everything you say should be filtered through your apple-friendly agenda then.pr2
- I'll be fair, if adobe had a hot stock then I'd be all over them too. But they don't. Because they're incompetent.kpl

@pr2 I have a plug-in for Safari called "click2flash" that shit blocks everything and if there's one I do need to actually see, I click on it to see it and it loads, the rest = blocked

flash is like geocities. adobe created a tool to make publishing for the web too easy. the result is that everyone and their dog has 'learned' flash and done something 'creative' with it. there are tons of great uses of flash out there, but understandibly many more really, really bad ones.

As long as I can build something in flash CS9 with the option to export to HTML 5, I don't give a shit.

New York Times also spits HTML5 video when you visit it with mobile Safari

ernexbcn, mrghost - so you get ads AND information. Sure chose to live in the ad-less words still thinking that the earth is flat as you don't get any news or information.
did you try youtube without flash? It's slow as hell in comparison. Once again if you chose, ho ahead but i'll stick with what makes my life experience better.
- the 3 must haves you mentioned already work or will work without Flash...ernexbcn
- SLOWER then with flash. Get it?pr2
- that's debatable, we can argue about Flash performance on Mac OS X for ages, it's sadernexbcn
- We can argue about how any games are shit on mac osxPixter

there's this company here in los angeles that allows filmmakers to upload their dailies to their server and manage/review them. the entire front end is web-based and done in as3. it features a quite complex interface, one that couldn't easily be done in any other client-side technology.
this is one example of a use of flash many of you will never ever see, and there are hundreds of thousands of applications just like this. i think flash is much more prevelant that you realize. just because your daily internet browing doesn't expose *you* to any of this stuff, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
does flash have a place with regards to video or ads? i don't think that's the case anymore. i think if/when html5 becomes the standard, it will relieve flash of a lot of the duties it's specialized in over the years - and rightly so. i think we can at least all agree on that.

Made with flash

I'm sooo tired of people saying "Make a list of Flash sites you can live without". Flash is for multimedia, it can also do a lot of other things, like make sites, have dynamic content....and its great for marketing and advertising.
Marketing and advertising is BIG business just in case you didn't know.
How about this. Name a marketing or advertising site you can't live without. Most likely there isn't none! Because those "sites you can't live without" are typically informational sites. Sites that you go to to get information. Unless you have a closed mind, the web has more uses than just informational sites. Wait until it becomes common for you to access the internet through your TV! Marketing and advertising on the internet will be even crazier than it is now.
Let's be honest, CSS and jQuery can't do half of the animated effects Flash can do. You can't even do the simplest of animations with those. They're not anywhere NEAR as multimedia capable as Flash is. And until an IDE comes out that will produce vector animations, Flash will always be here. Even then, they'll be years or even decades behind Flash.
I'm finding that the people who are knocking Flash, are those folks who never bothered to learn it and were stuck in the back of the room for the past 10 years and am just looking for a reason to dislike it.
- someone needs to do their homework. look up css animations in google...m'kay?kpl
- ...there isn't any.
Sorry Engrish is a bit rusty today..fyoucher1 - Pleeeease CSS animations are shit.fyoucher1
- and well, i make my living in flash right now. Trying desperately to make my living in HTML5 instead however.kpl
- "can't do the simplest animations with those." you have no idea.kpl
- Is this what you're talking about? Ha!

- kpl, the walker didn't work in my browser, and the last examples you posted are pathetic.pr2
- they're not pathetic if you understand the technology involved. JS performance in browsers is on pace to overtake AS3.kpl
- ...Flash's AS3 VM.kpl
- Horrible links so far. I'm not knocking CSS either. When it does become easy to do animation in CSS, I'll be all over it.fyoucher1
- ..itfyoucher1
- The links prove the basics and potential are there. The future is coming, go get your sunglasses.kpl
- ernexbcn0
@fyoucher1 you do have a point, Flash is huge in advertising because the experiences they need to deliver are only currently possible thanks to Flash.
That's why we still have Flash on our computers for enjoy those sites. Sometimes it seems that just because Apple has some phones and now a tablet suddenly Flash is dying.
It's not!
- ernexbcn0
I'm already seeing some advertising agencies gearing up towards iPhone/iPad development, the ones that have capable AS3 developers can get into speed with the iPhone OS pretty fast, and if the clients want those devices covered they can make dedicated apps or websites that exploit mobile Safari's HTML5 features like CSS3 animations among others...
- OR they can choose to ignore the whole thing and keep doing business as usual!ernexbcn
- ukit0
I don't understand why people are so loyal to one platform or another. At the end of the day, if you can learn AS3, you can easily learn Javascript/ JQuery.
