LA is the fucking garden of eden and sodom and gomorrah all rolled up into one. i'm surprised we haven't been attacked by al quaeda yet.
and you're probably much safer in NY right now. i'm just waiting for the big earthquake to hit and turn all this into arizona bay...

If I may be blunt, I believe the issue we're dancing around here is that New York City is the greatest city on planet Earth. Period. End of thread.
(I am now retreating to an underground bunker to hide from the bullets that now have my name on them. And PS: We will never forgive you for stealing—then throwing away—Conan O'Brien. You bastards.)

LA - like any other crappy "city" in the states - no flavor what so ever; restaurants offer crappy food and the girls being hot they also start looking very repetitive in style. The night life is OK cause i know people with parties but without that hook up it's a disaster. Plus restaurants and joints close so early...
Bringing up rent prices is like talking about going to a great vacation spot and then getting expensive hotel - cause you r either lame and spend all your vacation watching TV in it or you are adventurous and don't care about the hotel cause you only go there to sleep at night.

LA - like any other crappy "city" <why is this in quotes> in the states - no flavor what so ever <you clearly have no idea what you're talking about already>; restaurants offer crappy food <are you fucking kidding me? we have some of the best and most varied styles of food imaginable. we've even created new ones!> and the girls being hot they also start looking very repetitive in style (yeah, if you stand in one place the entire time you're here). The night life is OK cause i know people with parties but without that hook up it's a disaster <your inability to get laid is your own damn fault>. Plus restaurants and joints close so early... <you mean 2 am? i can name some that close st 4, if at all>

lets see.. in LA you need to pay car insurance or need a car.. versus in NYC a $80 metrocard.. hmm
ill go with metrocard!! i do need my money for my closet space apt.
- i don't even have a driver's licensescarabin
- If you're good with your schedule and don't mind reading on the way, you can use the bus.ismith
- i take the EXTENSIVE public transportation herescarabin
- It's a lot slower than in NY but much more enjoyable at the same time... they're even for that.ismith
- Also with the bus pass you can go a lot further which is nice.ismith
- our public transportation runs 24 hours a day, theirs does not.e-pill
- this is true, but the LA system is pretty good at going where it needs to when it needs to...ismith
- the vibe is different though too... when I'm in NY usually I know exactly where I want to goismith
- and I want to be there immediately without distraction.ismith
- in LA to me getting there is half the fun... obviously some of it is just familiarity but not all of itismith
- like I could be driving along or on the bus and just be like oh rad, there's a party over there. i'll check it out...ismith
- cars are fun to drive and escape, and exploreephix
- yes eohix that is right, but in LA it is a necessity and without one you are fuckede-pill
- sorry ephix.. typo.. also scarabin can say he doesnt have a drivers license..e-pill
- but im sure he has his friends cart him from spot to spot..e-pill
- there is buses n subway in L.Aakrokdesign

- in the west it's just easier to have that stuff on hand, and CHEAPmonospaced
- so that is why they failed in NYCe-pill
- i wonder if its the demographic of the consumer.. in n out burger isnt known for speede-pill
- new yorkers dont have the luxury of time to wait.e-pill
- last time i was in LA for a business trip i forced my team to stop in n out..e-pill
- what was thought to be "in n out" took 35 minutes for 7 orders..e-pill
- fucking who cares how good the fries are when the service is lacking..e-pill
- my team swore off in n out forever.. said it was a waste of time..e-pill
- but ill eat it when im in town, i make it a habbit to go there as my first meal off the planee-pill

Truthfully, it's all about the person doing the living there. I've lived in both, enjoyed both, and they both have their pluses and minuses:
• LA is more chill and cool, NYC is hard and fast.
• In NYC, culture is around the corner. In LA, there's just as much, but you have to seek it out both through information seeking and driving.
• Both have good design. Both have good, smart people. And both have assholes.I'm an LA native, so I'm biased, but all those people still in NYC can't be all wrong.

- SF closes tooo fucking early .. its not even considered..e-pill
- i like SF for the reason that i can smoke pot on the streets in front of cops..e-pill
- everything else about SF is wacke-pill
- SF might close early on the surface, but the party goes all night. You just have to know where to go.monospaced
- why would i have to know where to go, when in nyc you can go anywhere..e-pill

It's not the East or the West side.
(No it's not!)
It's not the North or the South side.
(No it's not!)
It's the Dark side.
(You are correct.)

I grew up in SB, went to college in SD, designed in SF, and have recently moved to NYC. I've never "lived" in LA, but I know it pretty damn well via proximity. I love CA, it's different regions and climates, its beauty and its produce, the nature, the Mexican food and the good buds.
Being new to NYC I've had to go through a ton of adjustments, giving up most of what I loved about CA listed above. Slowly I'm moving from frustration to acceptance, and now I'm starting to see that there are a ton of things about this area that make it great. I've been hiking in the mountains have seen a forrest of yellow and orange leaves, the New England coast is a thing of its own. NYC has a history as unique and deep-grained in American culture as any city, including LA.
It's hard to compare two amazingly different cities fairly.
