I took Chantix. Went from a pack a day to no smoking in 3 1/2 weeks. The meds also make you less irritated with the world when you're trying to quit. I've been off the meds now for a month. I feel good. Only the occasional urge to smoke. It's manageable though.

Thanks for the info, ill look into the books, i like fax benson's advice about not publicising it and trickin your brain.
im not into the gum, im more addicted to doing something with my hands , think its a nervous thing, rather than craving nicotine, i can normally go a day with out smoking if im not doing much.
- ha! well you aint a smoker then - stop wasting my time.ckentish

I did it!
3 weeks now. I had flu so didn't smoke and gave up cold turkey. I have bought some herbal mix with the following ingredients:
Coldsfoot
Eyesbright
Yarrow
Chamomile
Lavender
Thyme
PeppermintIt's great stuff and I smoke this on the odd occasion I fancy a smoke and it's now like smoking tobacco to me

I've only read the very first post here, but I have to say that I find it absolutely hilarious that someone would be considering giving up smoking because of the fear of losing an eye.
I can't imagine there's much else available in life that comes with better statistical risks to that particular eventuality.

Successfully quit for the 9th time.
Haven't smoked cigarettes (besides once or twice while binging) for a month.Tossing away all ciggs lying around at home, exercise and not seeing smoking friends for a while have helped. But mostly, I've simply replaced that vice with another. Namely cigars.
American-Cuban friend in time since last month who brought lots of presents. Dude's a living smoke-quitting machine. Everyone should have one.

in 4 days I will have gone 1 year without a cigarette.

Remember that a craving is short lived thing .. last the three / four minutes it lasts - and you'll be fine.
Aim to not have a cigarette today - the thought of lasting a day seems more manageable psychologically. Keep the same aim each day.
Exercise - running is a great help.

I quite cold turkey a little over a year ago after a 15 year 1 pack a day habit. I'm absolutely loving it and don't miss smoking at all.

smoke free since 2003 ... cold turkey
My brain & body tricked me into thinking I had a heart attack of sorts.
Have not had one since and smoked more than a pack a day for 13 years.
