I'm looking for a new bank to open a savings account. My current one has been unsatisfactory and quite nefarious if not incompetent. Something with no/small minimum that I can access easily around the country with no fee. Also that doesn't require a permanent address if possible (or need to know your address at all).

How 'bout one in the cayman islands?

- serious - if you're in school, you should open a student account... i had no minimum and no monthly fees. i still dont have any minimum or fees even though i already graduated.SPECTACULAR
- minimum or fees.SPECTACULAR
- Same. BofA is the devil, but I still have 3 years before they start treating me like a real adult.Bargels
- Funny– this is the way I prefer, but I'll be traveling a lot so it would just be really bad...ismith

b of a, citibank, etc. they are not very good. even do citibank is a bit better then b of a.
if i am not wrong, you need at least 500 bucks. which you can't touch. other wise they charge you fees. cause taking advance of the low income people is a easy steal.
- You don't need 500 bucks to open a bank account. And how do they suck?monospaced
- saving in citibank, yes 500. dude.akrokdesign

I use http://home.ingdirect.com/ and I've been pretty happy with them so far.

How is ING? It looks good so far from what I read on the site but how much access is there across the country? I like that you can link the savings to one of their checking accounts and have a debit card, but I'd also like to know how well they deal with cards when they are stolen or show suspicious purchases.

^^ Ive been with ING for about two years now. All the interaction I have had with them has been online, transferring money from other bank accounts and vice versa, and direct deposits from paychecks. The interest rate is good, as far as I can tell, and Ive had no trouble with them with transactions and deposits. Also, I am now overseas, and I still transfer funds to my account on a regular basis. I have no idea what the service is like with debit cards, and fraud etc. For me, it's more or less an account separate from my regular bank account, to save money and to not burn holes in my pockets :)
- I'm not too concerned with the interest rate, really I just want to be able to go under the radar for a few yearsismith
- ...and still have my money there when I get back.ismith
- Good to hear though, I think I'll look into them more.ismith
- cool man, hope it works outegosmoke

If you don't plan on touching it for awhile, open a CD account.
- I don't "plan", but if I needed to touch it, I would NEED to touch it. CD is too restrictive for me I think.ismith

I'm looking for a place to put some of my money. It's been sitting in checking for a long time, so i'm thinking of setting up a CD to have it sit for a year or two. Anyone use Ally bank? They seem to give one of the highest rates, anything I should be wary of?
- I'm about to give https://www.wealthsi… a chanceBennn
- Better off putting it in an investment account as cash with a money market fund (not invested). Better rates than a CD these days, sadly.monospaced
- Actual returns instead of what cds have become, which is basically nothing.monospaced
- Are there risks involved? What kind of returns? Thankspinkfloyd
