I like the "rip" better...

Yeah who cares, fuck our industry, let's rape and pillage each other's works.
- I meant to discuss your work by the way. I raped it and now I have a rash... thanks.Knuckleberry

this rip is some how forgivable to me, original is classic though. when I first saw the dog food ad like a week ago I thought it might have been some sort of subtle reference but now it seems more borrowing of an idea.

Let's be honest, this concept isn't amazing original. It could have been arrived at totally seperate. Slow motion video didn't start with the original.
I'm not a fan of ripping things off, but there aren't many true original concepts. As someone pointed out a while ago, the iPhone start screen UI is *very similar to the Prada phone [from LG] UI... but no one cried rip because it's Apple and we love them.
- slow motion dogs with lazers in a techno vid is pretty originaleieio
- apple is actually suing other companies for stealing their patented technology.akrokdesign

Bullshit, this is a rip.
The background color, the slow motion, the framing choices, the breeds, the editing style.
This is not inspired. This is not a homage. This is outright theft.
- i agree with some of your points, but it's not theft.lambsy

I totally agree with 'bonecrusher' here. Pleix's original was indeed just that - original, and I'm not sure how any honest creative who was around at the time wouldn't see that. Nor can I see how the same honest creative could deny the overwhelming similarity and then go on to defend TBWA's thievery or attempt to justify it as merely similar or the result of homage.
On the assumption that Pleix wasn't contacted or rewarded for this in any way, this is low-down theft by TBWA.
What a bunch of talentless hack shysters.
.
Their website's shit too.

Well this is wat ad agencies do, they are the pochers of the industry.
- agree, its pretty hard to sell without a reference, you do a whole campaign in about 2 or 3 days with images and video from the internet and then you produce if its aproved, then everybody gets their money and oay the rent.surfito

Yes.

obvious rip

I don't think it's a rip. I think it might be just inspired.
The Pedigree Dogs has more of a storyline and it seems that all the frames are very carefully put together to achieve the end frame payoff. The Pleix one is just a visual treatment with slow motion dogs jumping and nothing more to it. And this isn't that original either. We've seen this kind of treatment in tons of motion work before Pleix. Pleix just happen to do it with dogs.
- rogersterling0
i shouldn't get involved in this kind of thread. it's mostly pointless.
bye.

maybe Pleix did it for Pedigree, Pleix is also a motion design agency, I think
- ********0
No pleix didn't do it. You want to know why you should know that? Because I told you the directors name in the very first post.

If someone here on QBN ripped something like that video,
everyone here on QBN would be tearing them a new ass.- yes. but as it's a big agency, i bet some keeps their hands of the keyboard. :-)akrokdesign

that is def. a rip. i didn't think the pleix video was all that amazing, but if you can't see the ridiculous amount of similarities between the two you are obviously not looking at your computer screen.
