I received an email this morning from Fontlab selling these posters:
http://www.fontlab.com/typograph…
I replied saying they were hideous, uninteresting and just plain wrong in some cases.
They replied telling me "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"and that some of them had won awards. Anyone here beholding any beauty or am I being unduly harsh?

I thought they were ugly for the most part. The periodic table one was clever -- but ugly.

No no. They're pretty terrible.

The Periodic Table poster is also incorrect if it's the same one as the attached that was floating around the internet recently. For a start, it's all in the wrong order (elements are sorted in the PT according to their atomic number, which refers to the number of protons in the nucleus) and the transitional metals in the traditional periodic table are those which live in the middle cross piece of the table so should surely have been transitional serifs? Also Akzidenz Grotesque is also noted as Ak when the whole world calls it AG.

They look like educational resources to me.
It's very difficult to tell how useful they'd be from those very low resolution images... maybe they're being a bit over-zealous (in terms of protecting their designs).

They just feel very, very old fashioned and don't make the subject seem interesting at all, particularly not to students. This kind of thing just adds to the stuffy, old fashioned aura that can surround typographic practitioners when it's really a very exciting subject.
