Is there any evidence showing the benefit of animated banner ads vs static?

I wish I could install AdBlock Plus at work.

my company runs tracking pixels and other testing on everything we run. There is no major difference.
Animated helps with heavy messaging in banners though.

I'm pretty sure the click through rate is considerably higher for rich media ads versus static.

Using animation, one can easily hide and unhide large groups of information. Making the delivery of the message easier to understand. Many people think that just having animation alone is the in your face technique that will gain the desired attention. When in fact, it's merely only being used to communicate a message

imagine one static black square and another that faded back and forth from black and white. You can put this on google analytics and see which one gets more clicks.
then run a test to see which people actually remember an hour later.

Sure, agencies and clients frequently have metrics compiled showing more clicks to an animated ad over a static one.
