"FLCL: Fooley Cooley" gets my vote for "coolest" effects.
"Tekkon Kinkreet" gets my vote for favorite story.
"Elfen Lied" gets my vote for overall bad-ass-ness.

Recommend some sci-fi anime that isn't about gasping teenagers with robots/super powers/demonic friends/military rank where ever episode is three minutes of plot and twenty of standing around restating things that were said in the previous episode and it takes five episodes for anything to happen. Because I hate that shit.
- if you never seen the movie Perfect Blue, then i suggest that.e-pill
- i has no robots, super powers or demonic anything, it is a psycho thriller..e-pill
- its a stand alone movie, not an ongoing series. its not exactly what you want but its amazing!e-pill
- The trailer doesn't make it look very scifi...i_monk
- It's not sci-fi at all.
Good thoughanimatedgif

New Dragon Ball Movie about the Lost Decade to Release in 2013
The new movie will be set between the anime Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT, which is exactly between the 517th and 518th chapters of the original manga. It’s the first time that the “lost decade” of the storyline after the end of the battle with Majin Buu would be unveiled. Kuririn, Piccolo, Vegeta, and other familiar characters will appear in the movie. It’s also emphasized that the movie is not a spinoff, but a story in the official history of Dragon Ball.
17 years has passed since the last Dragon Ball movie, this long awaited new movie will surely be a fabulous one. The author Mr.Toriyama said it’s the first time that he had ever been so deeply involved in the production of the Dragon Ball movies. Besides the great support of Mr.Toriyama, a lot of talented professionals have also joined the production.
Director: Masahiro Hosoda (Dragon Ball Z, Yu-Gi-Oh!)
Scripter: Yûsuke Watanabe (GANTZ, 20th Century Boys)
Animation Director: Tadayoshi Yamamuro (Dragon Ball)
Art Director: Hiroshi Katou (Neon Genesis EVANGELION, Space Brothers)
Original Author: Akira Toriyama

@i_monk Watch Planetes, it's about space garbage men basically but very good or Serial Experiments Lain.
Gantz might be borderline too, but it's got super suits in it, however most characters don't know how to use them and just end up dead. really violent, weird and good though
