Is there one full of cats?
- More appropriate for a show called "Spinsters."harlequino

On one hand it makes me chuckle. On the other, since there are some in my family with severe compulsion disorders and I've seen this first hand, it makes me sad too.

Oooohhh I see what they did there. Because the people on the show don't throw anything away... like newspapers for example.
I would be impressed if you got in the taxi and it was filled to the brim with dead cats and rotting food.

Whenever I see something like this I imagine a guy in a room who's getting paid premium rate for his ability to place newspapers strategically in order to create the most effective example of hoarding

That's clever. Glad to see it.

The first time I saw this in person, I thought it was something the cabbie did. Like his roof was leaking or something. I dunno.
I don't ever pay attention to those things on the cabs.

The ad is so weak. It's not entirely clear what a "hoarder" is.
Is this a fictional TV drama? A documentary? A reality show? About someone who collects newspapers? Or trash? It should at least imply answers to a few of these questions, no?
Otherwise, I'm pretty sure no one is going to try to store the title, channel, time and day into their memory. Especially when they're trying to get a cab in a hectic city like NY.

Yeah I can't say this would get me all that hyped up to see the show

A&E is one of our regular clients. what's great about those guys is they have so much money they actually do this sort of thing when we pitch it to them
the very fact that there are clients out there that are willing to break out of expected formats and techniques gives me hope

Bit daft, but a fun ad.
If the intention is to get people talking... well. ^
Whilst I have no idea what sort of brand A&E is (Here in Blighty, it's the 'Accident & Emergency' room in a hospital), given what they're doing here, I imagine they're targetting a relatively knowledgable demographic that is, presumably, aware of what a 'Hoarder' is, and would make (and appreciate) the connection. So, whilst they might have no idea why, they'll sure focus on 'Hoarder' next time they see it in their TV Guide.

If an ad can get a crowd of people talking about how creative, risque, controversial, funny, offensive, etc. the ad itself is, that's always a bonus.
But an ad's primary goal is to persuade the viewer; whether it's to consume, desire, do, or think something.
People usually follow their favorite channels. Hypothetically speaking, I know that I usually enjoy sitcoms from NBC. I generally dislike 'reality-shows' like Dog the Bounty Hunter. So people who like reality-shows, already tune into A&E. A&E can inform their existing viewers that there is a new show coming out called Hoarders via commercials on their own channel and lower third graphics. Out-of-home media should be used to persuade new viewership. A&E needs to persuade me, the sitcom watcher, to give their new reality-show a chance. Persuade me to think that Hoarders is better than all the other reality shows I've tried watching in the past.
- it persuaded you to write a lot of words about it, sounds pretty persuasive to me...fresnobob
- Fresno, you should start an ad agency that uses one stock image of boobs for all your clients. Those ads would get my attention every time.randommail
- attention every time.randommail

delta burke is an admitted hoarder, she's an actress from designing women, a show from the 80's that's totally irrelevant to this demographic but she admitted to keeping everything ever given to her for free from her fame, all of her wardrobes from every season of the show she was on, and when she moved she had all the full storage units she had in her hometown packed, shipped, and re-stored without ever doing any of that actual labor herself. she admits to forgetting what she was keeping but feared getting rid of any of it.

- Crazy! Yet interesting.
Now if only the ad had the same "WTF" affect on me.randommail

the ad does not remind me of that ^ >

personally i've always believed collecting (packratting) to be quite a quirky personality trait, we all seem to do it, it just depends what, some people enjoy being collectors while other don't see themselves as one but have an affinity towards something but just don't realize it. from bedroom to garage to office, magnets, mugs, pens, toys, pipes, containers, cars, bikes, skateboards, companies, cans, yo-yo, etc etc... i think it's a sign of our junk and maybe our internal need to associate personal belongings to our personality somehow either through size or intricacy of collection be it a conscious decision or not.
- You obviously haven't seen the show.waterhouse
- "Multiple cat corpses."
All I'm gonna say.waterhouse
