is it for a specific occasion? or is it more of a regular kind of suit (ie. you will be wearing it on a regular basis so "don't try to give me any H&M suggestion type of bullshit"?

Go to a department store, buy a simple suit from a brand you've heard of. Problem solved.
Unless you have $2,000 and can get something custom, you're going to look silly in anything else.
No slim ties.

the last suit i bought was a department store standard for my sister's wedding, and i vowed to buy a proper tailored suit next. i think calvin klein makes decent suites off the shelf. will still need tailoring, but better than loose no-name-brands.
so definitely tailored.
but no-one wears suits for work anymore these days...

The current stylish fit for suits is a throw back to the 50s, 60s. Slimmer, tighter, tapered fit, smaller lapels, and despite what's said above, thinner ties are also coming back. Clean, trim and straight-forward.
