Airey, the fact that you refer to people as being the "masses", shows how remote you consider yourself from thinking as an equal.

    • this makes no sense to me? i guess i'm not smart enough sorry.airey
    • does not surprise me, kid.janne76

I don't go to clubs. Airey, you really assume silly things. I am no big deal and i do not ever WANT to be or believe in a BIG deal. I am curious and sometimes provocative on here. Out of curiosity for responses. As i read the weirdest shit here.

    • what have clubs got to do with anything?airey
    • also, my reference to 'us' being dumb fuckers was to people that follow celeb news.airey
    • which isn't you obviously. therefore your assumption i meant you was incorrect.airey
    • god bless ya.airey
  • airey0

janne, with all due respect, if you were so enlightened as to be above such trivial absurdities as celebrity you wouldn't need to grandstand here. a agree with you in many points but we have always hero-worshipped and will probably always do so. presently we worship the vacuous. broadly speaking.

yes, you are right in many ways but to seem so angry about it makes you come off like the homophobe that goes out weekend to beat up poofs, only to come out of the closet 2 years later.

just saying, if you were so above it you wouldn't even bother with this thread as it would be simple fluff and inconsequential. just saying.

my 2 cents, i'm probably wrong.

and for the record, i don't shortchange (or shortminded - whatever that is) myself but what i definitely don't do is believe i'm somehow greater than the masses. i am all too aware of my own failings and mistakes to think that i'm not just as clueless at times as anyone else. it's why i love good satire as it tells the story from within the fold rather than without.

I don't even know who this girl is. I've heard the name but none of the pics on the other page are familiar to me. And why is she a model anyway if she looks as fucked as Lindsay all the time?

    • drugged=vacant=dange... or something like thatlukus_W
    • i had more bits to that but qbn cut them off .. probably makes no difference anyway ;)lukus_W

i am sincerely apologising for being able to transcend "the mundane" by just walking in the forest. cycling along the beach. talking to a nice little store owner around the corner.

sorry for being so simple. sorry for not being so fashionable.

    sorry for being fucking simple.

    • I agree with you though janne - the whole fashion business is bullshit.. but it serves a purpose quite artfullylukus_W

"she literally does fuck all in the world and parties as much as possible, which let's face it, most of use would do if we could afford it or get away with it. we call celebs superficial but we're the dumb fuckers who seem even worse. at least they're too coked up to realise their heads are up their arses. what's our excuse?"

who says we are the dumb fuckers, airey?
are you that fucking shortminded about yourself? do you have such little self-respect? do you really SERIOUSLY believe you only matter if you matter in the eyes of thousands of media consumers?

i am not jealous of her lifestyle at all. it is self-absorbed, it is a world of absolute fabrication and sheer cynicism (a lot of people here on this board suffer that: ALWAYS cynical about ANYthing in life).

There's nothing to be jealous about her life.

IF you need to be dependent on drugs and money ALL the time you are really really sad and actually LOST the most valuable things in life such as:
the strength to CONTROL and BEHAVE yourself
the ability to be happy and content about smaller things in life
not being able to appreciate the beauty and irony in reality but escapism and the influence of narcotics as the only problem

it's sad. yet the irony is, hundreds of thousands of people actually really fall for this nonsense.

    most glamour equals absolute empty-headedness.

    • i'm not exclusing myself from the masses at times. it's called being self aware. try it, you might like it.airey
    • maybe you are enlightened beyond the rest of us, but maybe you 'aint.airey
    • What are masses? And Airey, this is not about "me".janne76
  • lukus_W0

People who are delusional stand to be happier though maybe? even if glamour doesn't exist - it's possible to pretend, and therefore possibly transcend the mundane. I think this is why we sometimes behave like fish, foolishly swallowing the hooks that the fashion business puts out there - because although it's unlikely, we want to believe that there is a magical, exciting world available to those who are invited. Being transfixed for a short while on the unobtainable is probably okay, but I reckon people get jaded in any walk of life which relies on dreams and fabrications to function. The fashion industry is probably a good example of this.

  • janne760

why would i need an icon?

    noone needs an icon.

    people need a life.

people who do drugs ALWAYS had a troubled youth and have trouble finding a life.

looking for things that DON'T exist:
a world of glamour DOES NOT exist.
    it is fabricated.

a world of happiness through being rich DOES NOT exist,
indeed, the hedge-funders are overworked, and in their hunger to success (of which they still assume it will bring them "happines" (oh ignorants)) they'll burn themselves out, use drugs and booze to stay afloat and end up being apathic to those actually being happy with less (calling them simple or stupid) and form a "scene" of like-minded lost souls with apathy for the thing they were actually looking for in the first place...... they shot past it as people in their twenties don't believe happiness can exist in the smaller things, so they were religiously fighting for the bigger thing, the thing that only exists in a fabricated world and will lead you ultimately alone, because you never REALLY connected to someone by means of the heart and soul. Only by fabrication.

Just saying, don't take what you are doing to serious, the only thing you should take really serious in life is how you live with people. Be kind.

And if you can't loose your cynicism, you'll be lost forever.

Everyone loves her - from Wiki: Maybe emperors new clothes but that stats are insane. Most front covers ever I believe...

Moss has had campaigns with major Italian, French, American, and British designers including Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Calvin Klein, Roberto Cavalli, Chanel, Missoni, Longchamp, David Yurman, Dior, Yves Saint-Laurent, Burberry,Stella McCartney, Rimmel, and Bvlgari, including a campaign for the successful Brazilian label ELLUS during summer 2000.

She has been featured in fashion spreads in most major fashion magazines including UK, US, and French Vogue magazines (as well as other international versions of Vogue), Another Man, Vanity Fair, the Face, and W. Moss has appeared on the cover of British Vogue alone 26 times, in addition to dozens of other international Vogue covers, and has been featured on the cover of 17 issues of W, including one issue with nine different covers that featured the model. W even names Moss its muse (September 2003 issue). She has worked with the most well-known photographers in the fashion industry today, such as Mario Testino, Mario Sorrenti, Steven Klein, Juergen Teller, and Peter Lindbergh, and won the prestigious Vogue/CFDA award from the Fashion Designers of America in July 2005 as Fashion Inspiration.

Twelve months after her cocaine scandal, Moss made a comeback by bagging 18 top modelling contracts for the Autumn/Winter 2006 season: Rimmel, Agent Provocateur, Virgin Mobile, Belstaff, Beymen, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Roberto Cavalli, Longchamp, Stella McCartney, Bulgari, Chanel, Nikon, David Yurman, Versace, Mia Shvili, Calvin Klein Jeans and Burberry.

Moss also agreed to make her first foray into the design world by designing a collection, in collaboration with Katy England, for Topshop, Moss launched a fragrance and body lotion range bearing her name in association with Coty in 2007.

According to Forbes, Moss has earned more money since her cocaine scandal than ever before: her 2004–2005 earnings were $5 million[21] and her 2005–2006 earnings were $8 million. In 2007, with estimated earnings of $9 million, she was the second highest paid model in the world, behind Gisele Bündchen.

She's very pretty, but doesn't cross the "beautiful" mark. Perhaps that's her forte. That and a very good agent.
It's not like "people love her". People don't choose the icon they admire, they are told who they love through repetition in magazines and PR statements. In our industry, this should be beyond obvious.

btw the long article was from the times. Thought it better than the Sun's version :)

  • kezza_20

I just think she looks great, leads an interesting life, lets face it; is moderately accessible to shag, more than anyone else that famous, and is proof that being thick and beautiful works.

Last year shes had more column inches than most, earned millions, had a hugely successful clothing line for top shop (a good friends mrs is the buyer for that range for Top Shop and apparently kate's "lovely"). Been made into the largest ever gold statue, had lesbian orgies and been on the cover of every magazine.

She invented/is identified with the "look" that all women and the fashion press still are following 15 years on.

    Frankly shes an enigma.

Best quote I heard from someone who photographed her for Chanel was that the best advice Kate followed "was never to speak" as she sounds like vicki pollard.

She represents the last 20 years of the culture of UK to me, for good or bad.

    • fucking golden. "is moderately accessible to shag". awesomeness™airey
  • airey0

more power to her for making a great living with no discernible talent apart from looking good. but the thing that makes me laugh is all the thought and discussion wasted by other people–like all of us–about her. she literally does fuck all in the world and parties as much as possible, which let's face it, most of use would do if we could afford it or get away with it. we call celebs superficial but we're the dumb fuckers who seem even worse. at least they're too coked up to realise their heads are up their arses. what's our excuse?

    • there has to be some business savvy there, no?version3
    • yeah, hiring good agents and business handlers. that can be hard enough looking at madoff.airey
    • i'm just saying if it's that easy, why haven't we done it?version3
    • because you're uglyraf
    • yeah, because we're not pretty or connected.airey
    • so she does have a few things going for her, that was my only pointversion3

some interesting stuff there though - I actually started reading it, then my attention span hit the threshold and I switched to scan mode.

I think it's kind of cool, how this woman is a 21st century rock-star.
The whole thing is fucked up, because young girls want to be like her.
But young kids wanted to be like Kurt Cobain when they grew up as well and he had a similar lifestyle.

Who wouldn't live like a rock-start if you had millions in your bank?
I do my best to live like a rock-star, but can only afford to do it over the weekends at the moment.

    • she's a 'star'. 'rock' would imply some talent or musical ability. unless you mean 'model rock star' in teh way of designer r.s.airey
