Looking to get some feedback on a new project I'm working on with a friend. If you guys have a second and frequent busy bars/clubs we'd love to hear from you.

Thanks ahead of time!

why not just walk to the bar, possibly chat up a young nymph and buy your drinks the good ol' fashion way? This thing sounds like a pain in the arse
- yeah, really destroys the whole bar experiencemonospaced

neat idea. I think there is some potential here.
I see people twittering and iphoning and all that jazz in bars all the time.

Nice idea. I hope you succeed.
I filled out $0.00 in your survey.

why not wait for the waitress

This just seems like it is adding a lot of steps and people would still think you are cutting in front of them at the bar.
i did get a laugh though because it reminded me of paddy dollars.
maybe if you could order the drink to your table? i do see that this could work and some people would love it, people that love showing off there fancy phones.

The only problem I see is that when a bar is so crowded that it becomes difficult to order a drink, it's because the bartenders can't keep up with the order demands. This application simply adds to the demand and the time the bartender can devote to the crowds literally leaning on the bar. Their efficiency would fall dramatically and it would make the whole experience frustrating for both the phone user and the crowds of people hoping to get their elbow on the bar.

- well in some ways its actually more efficient than the typical wait for space and scream at the tender set up.baseline_shift

- (WTF?) If they had a dedicated server to bring out these drinks specifically, it might take strain off the bartender.baseline_shift
- Yes, it would include hiring more bartenders.monospaced
- which would be good for the bar if it increased demand, and drink output. And if they charge a premium for the service, even better.baseline_shift

Great feedback guys. Honestly, if you think the idea sucks, I'd love to know why. All feedback is good feedback at this point.
- these guys are mostly just being negative. youve got initiative, and this has some potential, IMObaseline_shift

So, this would increase the amount of drink orders coming in to the bar. Normally the bartender regulates this himself, tending to customers and groups as he sees fit. So, for this to take off, the bars would have to employ staff to meet the rising demand of phone orders. I just don't see why they would hire more staff for the demands of phone customers instead of just addressing the already present crowds. Just my two cents on why this wouldn't really work.

What happens when you've got to squeeze through 5 or 6 people to pick up your drinks? People are going to be pretty peeved no?
Nice idea but I'm sceptical

- def kinks to work out, but i think it might require a waitress or a special 'lane' at the bar.baseline_shift
- at swanky bars & clubs, id bet the 'iphone order lane' at the bar would be popular as shit. And cost more.baseline_shift

The great part of this app is that it should reduce the hassle for the bartender. The actual transaction is handled through the phone so all they do is bring it out. Not to say there won't be any ramp up time for learning, but if you know how to use an iPod, a bartender will only be processing more orders a night and hopefully get more tips out of it.
I could see it being interesting for hot bartenders who get more tips just based on how they look. Since you don't necessarily see them first, you might give your normal tip instead of the 'drunk maybe she'll like me if I add a dollar' one.

I have a couple of friends who are bar tenders and they would never go for it. Just for the fact that it already gets crazy when its busy and if they have to look at a computer screen to see what else they have to make besides the bunch of people who are already waiting there is just no way in hell. Sorry

Another way to think of it is like Fandango for the bar. I use this all the time for movies and while the line might be out to the street at the theatre, no one really gets pissed at me for walking to the kiosk and skipping everyone.
- monospaced0
I swear to god, if there was a dedicated line at the bar for people picking up their phone orders--for which they paid a premium--I'd fucking leave. It's about equal opportunity drinking!
- tell us how you really feel...baseline_shift
- You have some good points. I'll have to interview more bartenders to help solve those issues.thoughtandtheory

If that's posible, I would add some feature on the customer side to make it close to a nike+ thing, so people can compete with each other etc...
You would just have to add thins like historic of alcohol orders, average order per night etc...
That way it adds some user interest (You know how dumb we are when drunk > who never used with his friends just to see who was the most drunk?...)
I remember having seen the interview of 2 guys who made such things in their bar ( an order system on each table), and this made people oredring so much more alcohol than it turned their affaire into a really succesful business (check on google, those bars are in europe)
