The first ever bladeless fan.
The Dyson Air Multiplier™ fan works very differently to conventional fans. It uses Air Multiplier™ technology to draw in air and amplify it 15 times, producing an uninterrupted stream of smooth air. With no blades or grill, it’s safe, easy to clean and doesn’t cause unpleasant buffeting.

K, the words 'Coanda effect' pop into mind here, but... k, fuckit - how on Earth does this thing work? Magnetic brushless fan within the interior of the perimeter hoop?
- detritus0
Ah, so it (presumbly) pumps air from those inlet valves in the 'handle' and pumps it out of a hairline exit around the perimeter.
Coanda effect it is, then. Neato.
- I'm guessing it uses a smaller, faster motor, so would be curious to know how loud it is in comparison with a typical fandetritus

that's really cool.

their products are all cool and well designed.
+1 to them.

$299+ for a fan. enough said.

I'm struggling to understand the actual benefit here. I've never utilised a fan and felt unduly buffeted, and what's wrong with blades?
I bet this thing costs ten times more, chews up ten times more energy and conks out much easier than a bog-standard fan.

Does he just sit around thinking "A video cassette...BUT ROUND, BECAUSE CORNERS ARE OLD FASHIONED... yeah, and ...a deck chair, BUT WITH A LIQUID GEL MEMBRANE INSTEAD OF FABRIC, BECAUSE FABRIC IS, errrr, WEAVY AND, AND OLD"?

I bet this is an R&D by-product to fund a hovercar using upscaled air-multiplier (tm) technolology.
It fucking better be.

the video on that page is mildly retarded

I bet it still gives you arthritis of the face if you sit directly in front of it for 10 minutes.

Finally! A fan I can stick my wang into.

there are cars you can buy for $6,000 and cars you can buy for $6,000,000. to say this fan is overpriced is ridiculous, it cost less than a consumer digital camera, an slr lens, and several other things that are "just as useful"
- i can buy a fan for 10 bucks, which does the same job that this does.7point34
- my point was point will buy what they can afford, not just what they need.version3
- just arguing your point of usefulness7point34
- who needs a 6 million dollar car? hence why "just as useful" was in quotes, for ironyversion3
- i have a 6 million dollar car... it's 5.98 million times more useful than yours7point34
- hahaha, no backseat and a bonnet to hold 1 piece of luggage i assume? ;)version3
