What do you mean mining costs are too high? It's irrelevant, you will be paying for it, not the companies that will profit.
It's like saying USA will not start wars because they are expensive - ridiculous, that's the point!
I am just messing now.. But I would be surprised if nasa build the bomb without help from one of the few overpriced private companies with defense clearance.

The aliens who live inside this planet will take that as a hostile move yo!
Imagine if some ET's pure thought look at the ball of blue and green shall we bomb the cunt and see what flies up aye?... woosh kaboom.... then us earthlings be all like fuck you alien mother fuckers lets rock wabloooway and we get in out planes and attack the cunts.

NASA’s Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) mission will come to a dramatic conclusion at approximately 4:30 a.m. PDT (7:30 a.m. EDT) on Friday, Oct 9, 2009.

BOMB IT! Those Moon martians are probably hiding weapons of mass destruction.

weird how i get upset at the prospect of putting ads on the moon but i'm cool with launching missiles at it

What if we just bomb it, blow off a big chunk into space and let the lesser, lighter moon come to us, via Earth's gravitational pull? Yes No?
OR, we mine it till it less dense, then it'll just float on in in a couple o' years.
Ask Kanye, he's got all the answers.
- Yo camer, I'm really happy for you, I'ma Let you finish, but Ganymede is the largest moon in the solar system!PIITB

It's about time they got to bombing the moon. Been waiting all my life!

What would Kanye do? He'd fucking bomb it that what he'd do.

Another reason they could be doing this is target practice for incoming asteroids. Sure study water particles from the debris it kicks up but we already know there's material that can be mined from the moon. Not that I doubt their stated intentions, just my theory on additional goals for this mission.

Oh for fucks sake, it's not an actual bomb. It's the last stage of the Saturn rocket, called the "centaur", that was used to launch the observational part of the mission. It's a hollow freaking aluminum tube. Not. A. Fucking. Bomb. It will kick up debris not because it's explosive or even has inherently alot of mass, just that it's traveling at about 2x the speed of sound at impact.
Again. not an actual bomb. Not "target practice for asteroids".
*facepalm
