MASTIFF is just a strong name in general...

Mastiff's are awesome, there's also the Dogue De Bordeaux. Also a Pug is referred to as a Dutch Mastiff, they have suprisingly similar dispositions.

Temperament:
Cane Corso are considered to have an even, stable temperament. They are easy to train, generally good with children, and calm with their primary guardians. They can be reserved, suspicious and may be aggressive toward people they do not know, if not properly socialized. Corsos tend to be a quiet breed.[3]
The true Corso should be indifferent when approached and should only react when a real threat is present.

As soon as we can, my girlfriend and I will be getting a French Mastiff.
Any Mastiff = Brilliant dogMy friend had a Old English Mastiff, the best dog ever, played with the cats, the kids, guests (if guest invited play).

R-al,
why the french you like the color. thats is another option of mine.
I do like the blue color.SO the english played nice-nice or is it kinda rough?
- R-aI0
French because it the smallest (but still a giant!), temperament, plus the colour like you mentioned, and Turner & Hooch is a great film!
English could be rough, but only if you were rough. It was great watching it with their cats, very patient...

The Neo Mastiff seems do need less excersice. :D
I do have the Vizsla so there no way in getting around the excerise part.
Vizsla are big babies, i thought ok "velcro dog" sounds cute characteristic. till he's on you everywhere you go. Now I miss it when I have to come to the office. I'm having seperation anxiety. HAHA kidding.

Just looked up a Vizsla, that is a similiar color to the French Mastiff...
Both the Neo and Italian are beautiful dogs, out the two I'd prefer the Italian, as it doesn't look like it has a melted face. But it has to be French all the way for me.
Best of luck with your decision though fella...
You'll have to post puppy photos if you get either!

I have an English Mastiff.
The key when buying any dog is to know the breed's characteristics, and to work with them. Mastiffs are big, giant dogs. They are also incredibly docile, gentle dogs. They tend to be lazy. Yeah, they drool a bit, but it's not that bad. Mostly you just need to keep a towel near their water bowl and wipe them down after a drink of water.
Mastiffs tend to be GREAT with kids, other dogs, anyone. But it all comes down to socialization/training in the end.
Here are a couple of pictures of my dog, Rufus. He's a runt. Just over a year old and he weighs 125lbs. We figure he'll grow to 160lbs. His dad was 230lbs.

as lvl_13 said - I have a cane corso and she is the awesomest dog ever. They do not drool that much, they are a great size (mine is 85# - a bit small, males go 120 or so. Mine is a bit goofy and doean't like men in beards, is cautious around men in general but loves women and children. I have a friend who's 4 year old would get a running start from across the room and superman onto her when she was lying down and she would just look up, lick his face and then put her head back down.
She was very easy to train, but becasue she's smart (for a dog) she was constantly testing boundaries - like a little kid. So it is a good choice as long as it is not your first dog.
Also because they have a certain look that is kind of familar, but not quite everyone - has to stop you and ask what kind of dog you have. That's a little cool at the beginning, but gets old after a while.
The great thing about mastiffs in general is that they just have this mellow attitude, like they know that they can handle anything that comes thier way, so they just chill.
I had a french mastiff / douge de bordeaux also. I like the cane corso more.
anyway, here's a picture of my cane corso eating the french mastiff when it was a pup
