Anyone using them, they aren't very popular in America. But I think this is changing a lot because of the newer smart phones. Thanks.

Most phones have had q code functionality for years now, but it's always turned off by default or has been disabled by networks, q codes have been big in Japan for years but I imagine they are viewed as dated now. Considering that is a marketing tool all they do is link you to a URL, and considering that smart phones are more and more frequently reading standard web content, the need for q codes seems only to serve as a novelty and the likelihood of people outside Japan knowing what to do with one is minimal.
- Not sure how the phones being able to display standard web content diminishes them.DrBombay

When I was in Tokyo in April I still saw them everywhere. In magazines and newspapers especially. I had some stickers made with them that have a 3 word phrase encoded in them and had a friend in tokyo plaster some up around the city. It's kinda fun and just wanted to see if anyone was using them for anything interesting.
Here are a couple of links:

Whether the technology is dated or not is pretty irrelevant to me. I just think it is neat blending the offline and online together like this.
- yeah, its interesting. The headstone from the above link is a bit far, IMObaseline_shift

- I imagine it did well in Asia...DrBombay
- just wondered how the success was measured, how hits converted to box office etcmax_prophet
- a poster is just a poster novelty codes or not, successful integrated campaigns usually require a bit more of a 'story' or surrounding materialmax_prophet
- successful in that it intro'd a seamless way to bridge the media gap 'tween both our print and online campaignsscarabin
- also, it raised awareness in the states for this technology and garnered us acclaimscarabin
- it also DOMINATED comic-con and appealed to our primary demographic– nerdy tech headsscarabin
- and don't worry max_prophet, it was just one part of a VERY extensive campaignscarabin
