Well the Google OS is launching soon...I don't think it's quite what you described in terms of looking as good as OSX, but I'm sure it will provide more competition.
The problem for M$ is that market for desktop PCs as well as the market for software is eroding at the same time, and they have yet to establish much of a foothold in either mobile OS or web based apps.
- I understand it'll be a browser based terminal for wireless google services. They've been working on infrastructure for yearsraf
- ..years. They bought all the optical fibre left in the ground by 2000 burst bubble superhighway companies and..raf
- ..have teamed up with a wireless provider which will cover all of the USraf
- That's interesting...the Chrome OS is targeted specifically at Netbooks type computers...they already have Android for wireless devicesukit

raf, you are thinking of ubuntu,
http://www.ubuntu.com/- I was thinking of something that doesn't look like shit and looks to be designed with a clear concept in mind..raf
- ..that's basically the only important thing separating osx and ubunturaf
- Year after year I look at ubuntu I see linux with an X-interface put together from other os scraps by manga fans.raf
- I mean, it's ok, but offers no incentive not to use ms windowsraf
- Even the name says "something you don't want to use". "Zune" is a better name. "Solaris" is a fantastic name.raf
- looks a lot like a Mac OS, or at least stolen from one.utopian
- Ubuntu's great, you can make it look like Mac OSX with no slow down or excessive resource use, its jus a nightmare to get CS4 on it :(Hombre_Lobo

I'll repeat that for the tenth time: I wish there was more competition on the market. Just take ten or a hundred million of investor dollars, work for a year on a linux distribution and make it look and work as good as OSX, launch mac and win software and work on all computers. How hard can it be, really?

- HAHA...brilliant...g... point too though. If you use a comp every day, why not spend an extra $500 on a good one?ukit
- why spend 500 extra if its not better?deathboy
- lolz. but it is, you're just too dumb to recognize the differencelambsy
- haha. these are great!Gucci
- exactly lambsy. im seen the difference.deathboy
- this is evidence that some people have way too much time on their handstymeframe

One thing that is interesting is that even though Apple hasn't gained much share of the consumer desktop market, the gap between the profits of the companies is not all that great...and one is growing while the other is going down.

Safari hole exploited in seconds at security conference
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1009_3…your mac designer mind didn't comprehend the point of the link (or the hack), not that people are creating hacks, it's that they are exploiting browsers. He said it takes longer to exploit ie - get it?
- I want you to try harder.chossy
- +1 Chossyakoni
- like how you update your website?jerseyred
- Why would I update my website?. I have a job. I do not need the website for freelance and I am in contact with all my friends. My website is at best a silly hobby.chossy
- friends, my website is at best a silly hobby. I don't make a living from the internet nd don't need to advertise nor display my work on the internet.chossy
- just effen with you man - don't try so hard!jerseyred
- I think you should apologise.chossy
- what! isn't there an analogy that describes heat and kitchen? Insert analogy herejerseyred
- That does not sound like an apology to me.chossy
- perceptivejerseyred
- i don't think this REALLY needed to get personal, now did it?Gucci
- I still didn't get that apology. I demand an apology.chossy

The more platforms there are, the more competition, the better for us users. Unless you own either company's stock, you're defending it because you've been brainwashed to present brand loyalty.
I use Apple stuff as a personal preference but the better the competition gets, the better for every end user.
I'm sick of it when people get caught into brand camp tricks set up by marketing depts. Civillians, ok, but most people here work in advertsing and should know the game ffs!
- good - like a true artist in this industry I own both and design for both - I don't discriminate, I hate em alljerseyred
- Same with politics. Ppl think their president is their friend. Does he ever play golf with them? No, he does with bankers.raf
- it's not a bad approach jr :) however, computers need love, or they wont start at times - just like carsraf

Make sure you tell people that the hacking contest he won consisted of him turning up with something which ha had already written, he just pressed a button after he had already spent several hours at home wherever trying to hack the computer and after he was sucessfull he went to the contest and did what he already knew worked.
So no he did not hack the computer in ten seconds, he won a competition in ten seconds, with a practiced formula which already worked.
Quote the part of the article where it says the contestants turn up with prewritten code.
Naughty.
- dude whatever, still shows it can be done.jerseyred
- "took 10 seconds to exploit a hole in Safari" he didn't bring the laptop!jerseyred
- even the dumbest fuck knows that 10 sec. it's not possible.
akrokdesign - ahahahahahaGucci
- sounds like you don't know people who can do that kind of stuffjerseyred

10 Seconds to hack a Mac
http://news.cnet.com/8301-27080_…Miller has won the PWN2OWN contest the past two years. In 2008, he was able to gain control of a Leopard-based MacBook Air using a newly discovered vulnerability in Safari. That took him less than two minutes. This year, it only took him 10 seconds or so to exploit a hole in Safari on a MacBook running Leopard.
"I had a feeling that Mac was easier (to hack) than Windows," he said. "If I can find the Safari bug or exploit in a few days and it would take me 10 times as long for IE, why would I do that? I go after the easiest guy."
- thing is, real hackers still prefer to hack windowsraf
- probably due to the low market share mac has, right?jerseyred
- but I'm just messing, I don't give a shit, use what you wantraf
- Yeah, I think it's basically market share...if Mac had more users it would be targeted more, and obviously Apple would have to spend more on securityukit
- spend more on securityukit
- totally, no point in hacking a mac, low % of people use them compared to pc
jerseyred - not anymore, it's actually a nice target, just hardly anyone's shooting. I'm surprised myselfraf
- ur right ukit - why would hackers waste time 2 hack an os w less users than another - less $, less reachjerseyred
- shoot away!
*loads gunukit - I'm more interested in phreaking (after a link on here about the phone guys) seems fun

Seriously, this is pure ignorance...I had a PC for a few years and recently switched so I know.
It's not fanboyism to say that Macs are just better designed and engineered, hands down. With a Mac I can tell it was built from the standpoint of actually delivering a good experience...with the PC I feel like I'm being sold a machine as a pretense to sell me anti virus software.
- i use vmware fusion w/ xp home for stuff. it's like an endless barrage of security updates and virus scan prompts.prophet0NE
- even if your update your anti-virus, there a ton of new stuff that your not protected against.akrokdesign
- CRITICAL - your security settings may be out of date! Would YOU like to start paying Norton $20/ month?ukit
- Option 1: Yes. Option 2: Remind me again in 10 minutes.ukit
- HATE THAT STUFF!akrokdesign

Macs wouldn't exist if PCs did what they were supposed to

speaking of ferraris... some say the enzo overrated. mainly due it's price tag and pharrell. an amazing piece of machinery though right? well imagine the poor bastard who smelled 'something funny' while enjoying a nice afternoon boot through the vineyards. pulls over, 20 secs later this is his enzo... now that's something to complain about. whoops.
- nice grammers. one day i will learn to read it before posting it.prophet0NE

My 20yo Porsche 911

Still run well and look good
It's about how you take care of it.

i have a 12" g4 powerbook that was my primary machine. built like 30+ magazines with it, countless print stuff, websites, music, video ripping, blah blah. basically i tortured the poor thing. ran like a sherman tank until the third party ram finally fried and it wigged out. i pulled that out, runs like a sherman tank. i use it now as a backup and for surf the interweb around the house, etc. love that lil' bastard.
so i don't know what you mean by 'overrated' really... and you know what though? sometimes shit breaks. i bet there's someone out there who has their f430 in the shop due to a blown oil gasket... and some other guy is complaining right now at dunkins because his donut has a hole in it. and i bet zzzzzzzzzzz......
