I have a Mac PowerPC 450Mhz I boght in 2001, still making money...

I sold my old Powerbook G4 to my mate. He had it a month and said he hated it. The screen was apparently to flimsy, the OS was way too weird, he couldn't get Outlook to work properly and Photoshop, Illustrator and Reason just weren't quick enough for his needs.
He'd basically never used the software before and didn't even know what he was doing. He therefore went and got a PC which he has since reinstalled the OS 3 times in 5 months and just watches films on it and surfs the internet collecting spam and viruses. A none creative.
Everything has different uses. My parents prefer their mac because it does exactly what they want it to do. I prefer my Mac because the software just works without any hassle and I don't have to sit their configuring it to do stuff.
This isn't an argument. Macs are no better, they are just a different way of doing things. A way I find much easier.
- Powerbook G4, let's get the timeline board up. hm, 1989. or what?!akrokdesign
- no way mate, it was the one from the 60's. Very retroIanbolton

it's not just about the os. it's about GOOD design and branding.
look, now when you fitted you studio with all designer chairs, tables and other fancy stuff. a HP/DELL/ACER/YOMAMA/ALIENWARE wouldn't fit in.
it's like buying a knock-off designer chair. it might be good but it won't beat the original.
- I don't know about your studio, but in mine the computers are under the desks.TINKLDN
- only think under the desk is my secretary and the subwoofer. lol.akrokdesign
- ooooops. i am to tired. cant spell.akrokdesign
- i don't like it under the desk. i have long legs. and i like to stretch. plus there is two chairs. so. its on top. instead.akrokdesign

Think raf just ended this thread :)
Its great, we all argue which is a better OS, which is a better tool for a creative to work on...arguing all the while to avoid doing any real work...hehe

What was the original premise of this thread? PCs are more durable than Macs? Someone try to make that argument lol
- durability can't be compared. pcs are made by so many different companies. macs always by appleemukid
- apples and orangesemukid

- more than i hate appleemukid
- Who are the high end PC manufacturers?ukit

as far as the OS goes, Snow/Leopard is leaps and bounds better than window xp or even vista. but Windows 7 is fantastic. microsoft have never been innovators but this time they've done something right.
- never been innovators? cmon go look at their gazillion products, tell me they didn't invent anything after that...zarkonite

I believe PC users understand computers better than mac users. You could build a quad core machine, with 8 gb of memory, 1 tb hard drive, and a bunch of bells and whistles for a fraction of what a mac costs. They may not be sleek, sexy, shiny, deer in headlight caught, works of art but the inside is diesel.
-Intel® Core™ i7 950 Processor (4x 3.06GHz/8MB L3 Cache)
-12 GB [2 GB X6] DDR3-1333 Triple Memory Module
-ATI Radeon HD 4670 – 1GB
-Asus P6T -- Intel X58 Chipset CrossFire and SLI Supported w/7.1 Sound, Triple-Channel DDR3, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, 3-Way SLI PCI-E MB 3-Way SLI
-1.5 TB HARD DRIVE -- 32M Cache, 7200 RPM, 3.0Gb/s
22X Dual Format/Double Layer DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW Drive
-The case looks like it's straight out of hackers but whatever$1351 - try to get those specs with a mac and find me a price!

i was once working at a design studio and there were 2 new designer jobs going, both good jobs, both well paid.
A woman rang up and asked how she should apply, after some chattin my boss mentioned to her that we use windows machines.
She seemed shocked by this and over the phone she said she doesn't want to work in a windows based design team. To which my boss replied saying that surely the computer you use is merely a tool to reach an outcome, particularly when the applications are identical. She refused to apply. That is a creative who will not get very far.
About half the design agencies ive visited use windows OS.- wonder if he applied, http://www.qbn.com/t…jerseyred
- good on her!must_dash
- lol must, :PHombre_Lobo
- me either, I wouldn't apply, actually that shows the oposite, it should be the designer to choose not the other way around...what do u want? Win or Mac?Elfangio

honestly, this is not a very beautiful machine either, not really sure where Apple got the reputation as having beautiful product design outside of the ipods.
Lian Li makes cases that look similar and some would say better than the MacPro aluminum tower cases. And in all reality a laptop is a fucking laptop. but these things were fucking hideous:
Looks like a panini press from Walmart.- I love the iphone though before you fanboys get your thongs twisted.DrBombay
- i think at the time these designs were unique. the panini machines ripped them off later.emukid
- unique doesn't automatically mean good design though.DrBombay
- the laptops and macpro cases are understated, these were gaudy.DrBombay
- are you kidding? that shit was crazy hot in the 90s. they were already in my design history books in schoolscarabin
- you cant make me like them :DDrBombay
- The iMac started the whole craze of making a computer look cool, instead of shitty beigeIanbolton

listen you guys, it is true what they say about macs. i used to be a pc guy and no one liked me. and my designed sucked. then i switched to a mac and now the ladies can't get enough of me. it's good to use a machine that actually works because things on pc just don't work. you switch it on and there's nothing there! i never have that problem on a mac. oh, and i am now an award winning designer. and a total wanker who thinks that the machine i use has an effect on my work.
