would you pay a few cents more for your sodas, energy drinks, etc. if it helped cover the costs of public healthcare?
me personally, i'm a diet soda drinker—and from what i've read, we'd be exempt from the taxes!

Anything to keep you weak willed fatties from taking up room on my sidewalks.

Tax marijuana so they can legalize it.
- and think about how much more sodas they would sell.baseline_shift

But...
Would you be in favor of making it illegal for fat people to buy soda?
Sorry Sir...you are way too fat to drink sprite.
The airlines do this
- lvl_130
the airlines do not do this. are you insane?
- tgqt0
They can prevent fatties from flying.
- scarabin0
i've only heard that they charge you for an extra seat if your ass requires it.
they ban people altogether for being fat?
- pretty sure we would have heard an uproar in texas if this were true.lvl_13
- no offense to the skinny texans out there. :Plvl_13
- Yeah, those fat texans love to roar, don't they.TheBlueOne

If that plane starts going down, you WILL be looking at the 350lbs fat person in the seat next to you and someone know it is their fault.
- 350 lbs. isn't even that bad when in a walmart in upstate NY.tgqt

There's lots of energy drinks that are almost up in the $3 range now....FFS they're not cigarettes! If they go up any more I might as well start buying meth :P

Can see it on Fox News now. Dude wears American flag tshirt, mullet, steps up to podium:
"You will tax my soda sir only when you pry it from my cold, dead hands."
*raises one liter Pepsi bottle defiantly in air, crowd erupts

This is where this 'sin tax' and health care is heading. I am all for it.

The artificial sweeteners are just as unhealthy and harmful as the high fructose corn syrup in sodas.
Also the carbonation is bad for you.
A tax on sugars is just another bullshit tax. The tax on cigarettes did shit for consumption. It just brought in more money.
What the government ought to do is to hire CP+B again and create negative stigma around junk food!
- ribit0
well they should tax muffins and cakes too. and chips. and pies. and white bread. and ice cream.
- TheBlueOne0
Or better yet, how about we stop the huge fed agricultural subsidies to big agro to produce all this corn and attendant corn syrup.
I know, I know..fucking useless.
- Exactlydesignbot
- I propose a corn tax...to offset the subsidies.designbot
- haha!TheBlueOne
- Unless it's actually sweet corn grown to eat....mmmm.designbot
- tgqt0
'over consumption' is what needs to be taxed. regardless of if it's an ipod addiction, tastycake, or having 8 kids.
We are at a real crossroads here [earth] where some hard decisions need to be made.
- YES! Just like communist china!
Aren't they all skinny?!randommail
