Actually Cargo is very helpful for a busy designer.
Yes, you can only change the CSS file and some specific settings for now, but I found Cargo to be very flexible.
Worked out my portfolio in about 3 days, after not having one for more than 5 years, because of a busy schedule and lack of advanced programming skills to build a portfolio system and develop on it further. You can always choose another theme from those provided and customize it further to your needs, if you find it too "standard" :)
It is the best in this class of online portfolio tools. Better looking than Indexhibit, free vs Krop Pro, easier to implement than Core and although is a beta project, I haven't found any problems with it yet.
Simply buy a domain, upload your projects to Cargo, customize it a bit, change the custom url to your domain and in a few hours you're set.
I would have used Wordpress to build a personal portfolio, but I'm not that good with code so...
Btw, if you guys know a nice developer with skills to build any site on Wordpress, contact me please. Thanks!
- this is why i got on it too!baseline_shift
- Nice job, they should hire you as narrator of the Cargo infomercialukit

I like Cargo in the sense that it's incredibly easy to update.
But at the same time, I already kind of miss the personality alot of people's personal portfolios had....

I'm currently using core to update my folio (not up yet) - finding it extremely easy to use and allows for quite a bit of customization. I am liking it a little more than cargo just in terms of being able to add different types of functionality (jscript).
Both have their merits - I will post mine as soon as it's ready ;D

I would like to state, that I just recently moved my site to cargo.
I DO know how to build websites, my previous site was featured in 2 magazines. As I started adding more and more work it started to became pretty slow, and these days no one waits over 40 seconds for a site to load.
I gave cargo a try, it was so easy..
I'm able to upload new projects and current projects daily, it might look similar to other portfolios, but I can focus on more descriptive analysis on my projects, I was just going to have the cargo thing on the side, and then I said fuck it..
and decided to make cargo my main site.I still design sites for other people, but when you are busy a good CMS is essential if you want to keep your folio up to date.
cheeeers!
- WHY WOULD IT LOAD FOR 40 SECONDS? YOU CAN MAKE DIFFERENT PAGES NO?Coffeemaker
