    • Thats a good rate if you research Junior roles in London.Grafisk08
    • for junior thats alright, normally you see 16kFallowDeer
    • fuck! I got that ten years ago in my first job... still better than nothing...SlashPeckham
  • schjetne0

This is the face I made when reading the salary:

  • dajaniel0

That sounds like it's the going rate for a junior web designer... I don't think you'd find many junior roles for £18k+ in London?

  • Stugoo0

good for a juniour rate, i started on 12 doing that shit.

  • schjetne0

Fair enough, except from the sound of the role description they just stuck "junior" on there while still expecting someone experienced and not junior. Seems to be more and more of it going around in the UK. I wouldn't know how to live in London on £18k.

  • schjetne0

Ten years ago when I was working as a junior graphic designer I was certainly not a Photoshop or Illustrator "expert".

  • 23kon0

ive been using photoshop for about 15-16 years maybe and i'm in no way an expert in it.
an expert is someone who knows absolutely everything about a package, i've no way used EVERYTHING in photoshop or indeed in illustrator.

Other than the "expert" unrealistic spec its a pretty good 'want list' for decent money for someone with good skills coming out of art college.

Certainly a lot more realistic than US ads i've seen wanting PHP, XML, Flash Wizard, Designer, CSS, HTML, and every software program under the sun.

    • Expert is used as reference as stated from the recruitment consultants to expected level, blame them for defining things in such ways!Grafisk08
    • ive seen jobs in the UK asking for all those things recentlyFallowDeer
    • it's spreading to the UK too then23kon

For the record, if I was fresh out of school and still lived with my parents, I'd apply.

  • 23kon0

    i agree, i'd apply too.
even not living at your folks you could still live on 18-21 in london.

    • You'll survive on it, but it won't be much left for fun and games.schjetne
    • If you never ate or travelled anywhere.jamble
    • Yeah there should be more to life than just surviving.schjetne

I get by fine on £1000 a month in London after tax. I live less than 10 minutes from London Bridge in a lush shared Victorian House, happily afford to eat and live well and pay for my rent on that wage. If I weren't going back for my final year of university, this would definitely appeal to me, especially given the great quality of work and clientele they boast.

I'm on paid placement at the moment and when I was hunting for it I looked for Junior roles and offered less experience at a cheaper rate if they'd take me for placement. The going rates for Junior's were all between 16-24k or so.

If anything like this is going around time of my graduation I'll be snapping at heels for the opportunity.
