10 years as a creative, 60 hours a week is my minimum hours for the past decade.
- and you are okay with that?
^serious question.^
do you have a wife/and, or kids?lvl_13 - granted 60 hours isn't absolutely horrible, but that basically leaves no time for anything else...for an entire decade. work should not equal life.lvl_13
- decade?! work + money ≠ life + happiness . it strips you of it.lvl_13
- but who am i to talk. i don't know you. i am merely making a vast assumption of it all.lvl_13
- after all these years, I'm giving up... 60hrs a week for 10 years + is not livingynot
- Given up, going to sell some t-shirts next year since my family have the manufacturing facilitiesynot
- and you are okay with that?

You don't want to end up like Janne, living in a tent in his moms backyard, or like René, in that tunnel...

Why is it that in the 'creative' industry there is the perception (and expectation) that our typical work week should constantly exceed 40+ hours? Now things like deadlines & getting caught up in the creative moment aside, does anyone think that other industries (with exceptions, of course) work the same way?
Now i'm all for doing the best work I can and will always put in the extra time to make sure something is where I want it to be... but still... to burn ones self out.. for what? I disagree with that 'you're young work while you can sentiment'... who says just because you're young you should be fucking slave driven by clients and employers who are generally unappreciative of the creative process?
And granted, you are only young once, but you also have a fucking LIFETIME to accomplish your goals.

On a sidenote I had a few internships that were somewhat slave-ish, although I was awarded modest stipends on both occasions. I can only imagine how competitive internships are in NYC and how much more they probably take advantage of young creatives.- law, doctors, architects all pull in more the 40h at first..plash

It's 3:45AM Asia Pacific Time on a friday nite/Saturday morning and I'm posting this in the bloody studio. Don't even think of coming to work in Asia, especially Singapore and Malaysia. It's funny how people here thinks, a creative that doesn't pull 12-15 hours a day shift is not consider as working, i've been to around 6 agency and in all of them, if you leave work at 6pm, everyone will be staring at you and start asking if you're taking a half day off, and it's not joking.
It's bloody tiring, nothing really rewarding.
