2 years ago, I made a book to show my portfolio. I printed it on nice papers with a A3 printer I bought for this purpose, I learned how to fold and bind etc.
It was really time consuming.
I had several interviews and the book (+ the content) really talked for me. Literally ! (I'm french and I had interviews in america and my english level is as bad as my accent.)
They enjoyed having an object in their hands (even the web oriented companies) instead of a poster or a portfolio case, a dvd, an external hard drive...
If you put a lot of yourself into the project, they can feel it.

I have a black, cloth-bound, hardcover box that holds print samples. Big enough to hold 9" x 12" pieces, small enough to carry under my arm. Inside I also have an 8.5" x 11" Lost Luggage book with plastic sleeves that can be easily updated. Frosted acrylic cover with aluminum mesh, looks nice and clean.

http://www.blurb.com does pdf to books now. finishing options are not the greatest, but a good alternative to consider if you do a pdf/laptop/projector presentation and a book leave-behind. more so if you are doing more than 5 interviews at a stretch.

I just use LULU. the print is 8.5x11 gloss cover. digital print.
looks like a slick fashion mag sort of.
pretty well received when peeps see it, it's easy and compact plus the cost is lo - like 14 bucks a book...
