I'm in an office, but I'll more than likely lose it to sit face to face with other staff. All because someone thinks we need more energy. Pay me more. How's that for energy?

open spaces. You can talk to people, feel more relaxed...which can help the creative juices. If you need quiet time, you can put on some headphones or go sit on the toilet. At the same time you won't be able to look at porn or sleep at your desk all day. So it's creatively refreshing and refreshingly productive, except when your on the toilet.

Open spaces suck because you cant make any personal calls during the day.

if anything you need more space for open concept than cubicles. you need a decent buffer so people don't feel like they're right on top of each other. especially when your neighbour's got a penchant for stinky lunches or some other pet peeve. Cubicle/partition walls give you that psychological space without needing the square footage.
- ** Exceptions: when you have a hot cc-worker that sits next to you.fyoucher1

Both... but NO CUBICLES! Cubes always felt to me like I couldn't see out but people standing around could see in....
open spaces for collaboration, and designers who like to work in the open...
For developers and some designers... closed spaces, like little rooms with windows and some privacy for focus time and they should have a "do not disturb" vibe.... not for all the time, but maybe for say... mid-afternoon flash debugging or such....
